Chapter 898
"Get out! Get outta here!" Haley bit her tongue, forcing the words out through gritted teeth.
Ivan held her tight. "Haley, chill. I'm here. Nothing's gonna happen. Don't push yourself too hard."
Haley was controlled by a chip. Most of the time, she ended up hurting the people who loved her.
He didn't care about getting hurt; he couldn't just stand by and watch Haley suffer.
"Leave! I'm telling you to leave!" Haley's eyes were bloodshot as she looked at Ivan. "Go, Ivan. If you don't leave now, I really will lose it."
Martin's voice in her head grew clearer, "Haley, the knife under your pillow, take it out, aim it at Ivan's neck, and stab him!"
"No!" Haley shook her head in agony.
Ivan was still holding her shoulders, his gentle voice trying to calm her down.
Martin's voice in her mind and Ivan's voice in her ears tangled into a mess, wrapping Haley tightly. She was in excruciating pain.
Her rationality suddenly vanished.
Haley forcefully broke free from the ropes binding her hands. She got up, grabbed a knife from under the pillow, and aimed it at Ivan's neck.
Just as the knife was inches away from Ivan, she twisted her wrist. The blade cut into the back of her hand, causing blood to flow out.
It was only at this moment that the voice in Haley's mind finally disappeared.
"Haley!"
Ivan grabbed her injured hand. He carried her downstairs and quickly took out a first aid kit.
Haley curled up on the couch, letting Ivan treat the wound.
After finishing, Ivan asked her, "What command did the system give you just now?"
Haley said bitterly. "I told you to stay away from me, but you insisted on coming closer."
Before she could finish her sentence, she saw Ivan's face darken. Haley pressed her lips together and said no more.
If it had violated the system's original programming, she shouldn't remember anything that just happened.
But she could clearly describe the recent events, which meant the command wasn't from the original programming but was issued by someone temporarily.
"Martin!" Ivan's expression darkened. "I've already sent people to look for him in Watertown. We'll find him sooner or later!"
Haley cupped Ivan's face. "Ivan, let's live separately."
"Why?" Ivan held her injured hand. "Haley, I know what you're worried about, but don't be afraid. I'll protect you."
"But I'm afraid of hurting you." Haley gave a bitter smile. "If he can give me commands, it means I'm a weapon in his hands. Ivan, do you understand? I'm afraid I'll become a tool for him to hurt you. Let's separate. It's for the best."
Haley's expression turned cold, filled with indifference and distance.
Ivan held her even tighter. "Haley, he can't hide for long. Don't be afraid."
Haley nestled in his arms, but her eyes still carried a chill. Today's events made her fully realize how terrifying the chip's control was.
She could fight back once, but she couldn't guarantee she would succeed every time.
Martin was a terrifying person. He wouldn't stop until he had tortured both her and Ivan to death.
