Chapter 794
Cauth actually saw Haley.
Cauth slammed on the brakes, and the car stopped in front of Haley's car.
He pushed open the car door and got out, walking over to Haley's driver's side. He gently tapped on the window.
Haley rolled down the window and said coolly, "Mr. Lumi, is there something you need?"
"Haley, where have you been for the past few weeks? I've been looking for you for so long," Cauth stammered. "What happened to your face? Are you hurt? Is it serious?"
His concern was evident, making it hard for Haley to keep a stern face. She softened her tone and said, "I went abroad and just got back yesterday. Mr. Lumi, is there something you need from me?"
"No." Cauth sighed in relief. "I was just worried about you. I'm glad you're okay."
After he finished speaking, he didn't know what to say next. He was reluctant to leave and stood there, somewhat dazed, in front of the car.
"Mr. Lumi, if there's nothing else, I need to go. I have to take the kids to preschool," Haley said calmly.
"I'll go with you," Cauth said awkwardly. "I don't have anything else to do. After you're done, can I take you all out for a meal?"
"No way." Owen's furry head popped up from the back seat. "We promised Daddy we'd be home in time for dinner."
Todd seemed to guess what was going on and said coolly, "My mom just got back and is a bit busy. If you want to have dinner with her, you'll need to schedule at least a week in advance."
Cauth didn't seem to notice their rejection and quickly said, "Then let's schedule dinner for this time next week, okay?"
His gaze was cautious, fearing rejection and over-revelation, as he struggled to keep his emotions in check.
Haley felt a bit uncomfortable. She paused and said, "No need to wait a week. Let's have lunch this Saturday."
"Thank you, Haley."
Cauth was delighted and quickly stepped aside. "You go ahead. Drive safely."
Haley nodded, closed the window, and drove away.
Cauth's brows, which had been tightly furrowed for over half a month, finally relaxed utterly. He began to plan in his mind whether to dine at a hotel or invite Haley's family to eat at the Lumi family restaurant.
As he was deep in thought, his phone vibrated.
Seeing the ID, Cauth darkemed his expression.
It was Bark calling.
"What the hell is going on with Bryan?" Bark said coldly. "I had such high hopes for him and allocated most of the Lumi Family's resources to him. Is this how he repays me?"
Listening to Bark's angry rant, Cauth fell silent.
Recently, Bryan had been determined to compete for the heir position, and Cauth had been fully supporting him. Bark had been very pleased.
But yesterday, Bryan suddenly announced publicly that he was withdrawing from the competition for the heir, then turned off his phone and locked himself in his room.
Cauth had never been enthusiastic about the heir role, and similarly, his son exhibited disinterest, which did not strike him as peculiar.
Not being the heir, he still lived quite well.
The only regret is that, because he's not in a position of power, he has far less ability to protect Haley.
"I'll give Ava a one-month trial period. If Ava performs well, Ava will become the next head of the Lumi family, and I'll arrange for Ava to change her last name to Lumi. At that point, Bryan will have no chance!" Bark said coldly.
Cauth sighed. "Dad, I'll try to talk to him again."
At the very least, he needed to understand why Bryan suddenly gave up the competition for the heir.
