Chapter 103 Why Always Make Him Guess?
Mary's breathing was still slightly rapid, and there was a hint of coquettish red at the corners of her eyes, but her gaze remained cold and devoid of emotion.
Matthew didn't want to see her so composed, but he seemed unable to do anything about it.
The bed was still in disarray, and their proximity was dangerously close, yet an inexplicable tension lingered between them, making the atmosphere oppressive and uncomfortable.
After a while, Matthew got up and headed straight to the bathroom.
Mary closed her eyes, her breathing now steady.
By the time she had freshened up, it was too late for breakfast. Without looking back, she left, heading to a nearby breakfast joint to grab a hot dog.
As Matthew came down from upstairs, the car was already waiting, and Mary had reached the community's entrance.
Sam, the driver, looked serious. "Mr. Montagu, Mrs. Montagu just passed by."
"So?" Matthew replied.
"Should I offer her a ride?" Sam asked.
Sitting in the back seat, Matthew closed his eyes. "What do you think?"
Matthew didn't answer his question directly. Sam fell silent.
He pondered, 'Why does Mr. Montagu always make me guess? I couldn't do that!'
Sam's expression hardened as he drove towards the community entrance and stopped beside Mary. "Mrs. Montagu, would you like a lift?"
"No," Mary replied.
"Okay," Sam responded before rolling up the window and driving off.
In the back seat, Matthew opened his eyes, his gaze cold and distant.
Sam felt a chill down his spine, puzzled. "Mr. Montagu, what's wrong?"
Matthew gazed at him for a moment before closing his eyes again.
At the company, Mary threw herself into her work, fully immersed.
At noon, she bought some specialized cleaning products for Robert's clothes, intending to wash them well when she got home.
Unexpectedly, at the mall, she saw Laura and another girl shopping. The girl bought a necklace for Laura, saying, "Laura, this necklace looks so good on you. Consider it an early birthday gift."
Laura smiled gently, "Thank you, I love it."
The girl continued, "Ah... your birthday is coming up soon. I wonder what Mr. Montagu will give you. He's been doing so well with the Lindwood City branch lately; he might return to headquarters soon, right? Laura, I'll be relying on you when that happens!"
Blushing, Laura denied, "Don't talk nonsense. Mr. Montagu and I are just friends."
"Stop pretending it. Mr. Montagu holds you in high regard. Just look at the birthday gifts he's given you in the past. I remember the gemstone necklace he gave you two years ago, worth over three million dollars. What does that mean? It shows how much he values you," the girl remarked.
The two of them laughed and walked away.
Mary stood there holding her bag, feeling dazed.
Two years ago, Matthew and Laura were meant to be together.
She was just an intruder who suddenly entered their world.
But now, she wanted to leave, yet trapped.
She lowered her gaze slightly, suppressing her thoughts, and then left the mall.
In the evening, as Mary entered her house, a knock sounded at the door.
Peering through the peephole, she saw it was Matthew. Her face darkened, and she decided not to open the door.
She believed that when Matthew talked about close protection, he had ulterior motives!
Taking Robert's clothes, Mary headed to the bathroom, ignoring the commotion at the door.
However, she was soon drawn out by the sound of voices. She watched as her door was open, and Matthew walked in, followed by a member of the property management staff who was bowing and complimenting him.
