Chapter 789 Interviewed by the Adams Family
Mary was unsure, so she decided to hold onto all the evidence for now since she couldn't make it to Diamond Ridge anytime soon.
After several hectic days, the manuscript was finally completed, and the winery construction began.
Mary also started interviewing designers, but after several rounds, she hadn't found anyone she liked.
Some had ideas that were impractical, and most were too far-fetched. The creativity was there, but it was hard to bring to life.
One day, Shirley invited her out for dinner.
The food was steaming, and the aroma filled the air, making their mouths water.
Mary took a bite of meat and noticed Shirley sighing again.
"What's up? Since we got here, you've sighed like twenty-eight times."
Shirley looked at her in shock, "You counted? I didn't know you cared so much!"
Mary replied, "Come on, spill it. What's going on?"
Shirley sighed again and said, "I got called in for a talk by the Adams family."
Mary paused, "What?"
Shirley explained, "It happened a few days ago. Herman and I went to Robert's wedding, and the Adams family saw us. After that, I was taken to the Adams Villa, and they kept hinting at the differences between Herman and me, saying we're not suitable for each other, and that Herman's future wife must be someone of equal status."
Mary was silent for a moment, then asked, "So, why are you sighing?"
Shirley said, "I just didn't expect the Adams family to be so strict. I mean, it's the 21st century, shouldn't love and marriage be free?"
Mary looked at her, "Do you want to marry Herman?"
"Of course not!" Shirley immediately denied it, "I've never had that thought!"
Mary said, "Then why are you sighing? You made your stance clear from the start, you're only together for three months. If that's the case, you don't need to care about what they say."
"Oh, right!" Shirley seemed to realize, "I don't plan to marry him, so why should I care about those things?"
Mary looked at her, her gaze becoming more complex.
Was it that she hadn't considered it initially, or was she starting to waver during their time together?
From Shirley's appearance, Herman was treating her very well.
In such a sweet environment, it's hard not to fall for it.
Mary lowered her eyes, suppressing her thoughts, and didn't voice them.
These matters were for them to face.
Of course, she hoped Shirley could be happy, a hundred times happier than her.
"Eat the meat, it's ready."
Mary served her some meat.
"Thanks, darling, love you!"
Shirley blew her a kiss.
After finishing their meal, they headed to a karaoke bar. The private room was lavishly decorated, and the service was exceptional.
Male models came in to deliver items and even stayed to sing with them.
Shirley was having a blast, pulling one of the models to sing love songs.
Mary watched from the side, feeling a bit helpless.
Singing inevitably led to drinking, and by the latter part of the night, Shirley's consciousness was already a bit fuzzy.
"You guys can leave now."
Mary said.
The male models left one by one.
"Don't go, we haven't finished singing yet. Let's do another song, 'Because of Love'!"
Shirley reached out to keep them, but Mary held her down and said, "It's late, we should go."
Shirley looked at her and suddenly said, "Mary, I think I might be falling for Herman."
