Chapter 636 We Haven't Divorced
Mary stood in the corner, watching Robert surrounded by the crowd, a hint of a smile appearing in her eyes.
With everyone gathered around him, Robert made a wish and blew out the candles. The crowd cheered, and the lights in the private room instantly came on.
Robert held a knife to cut the cake, and everyone watched eagerly, especially Joan, who looked at him with great anticipation.
In the past, the first piece of cake he cut was always given to Joan, and this year would surely be no exception!
However, Robert took the cake and turned to Mary.
"For you." His attractive eyes held a hint of a smile as he handed the cake to Mary.
Mary was a bit surprised and quickly took it. "Thank you."
Robert reached out and ruffled her hair affectionately.
Just then, the door to the private room suddenly opened with a loud noise. Everyone turned to the door and saw Matthew walking in with a cold demeanor.
Robert's hand was still on Mary's head, and Mary was still holding the cake.
This was the scene Matthew saw when he walked in.
A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he scanned the room and saw the bag on the sofa.
Earlier, he had seen Mary picking out clothes in a men's store at the mall.
He thought they were for him.
But it turned out she was giving them to Robert.
So, she had no idea that today was also his birthday.
She knew Robert's birthday and even prepared a gift for him.
Thinking about the anticipation he had felt over the past few days, Matthew found it utterly laughable. The colder his eyes became, the more intense the smile on his face grew.
Matthew smirked, "It looks like I came at just the right time."
Matthew walked in step by step, standing in front of Robert and Mary. Looking at the cake in her hand, he picked up a fork and took a bite.
"Not bad." He gave a nod of approval.
Robert let go of his hand and asked indifferently, "Mr. Montagu, are you here to celebrate my birthday? That's quite rare."
Matthew was surprised. "It's your birthday today? Well, I didn't prepare any gifts."
He paused, then suddenly looked at Mary and smiled. "But since Mary prepared one, it's as if I did too."
Mary's hands trembled as she held the cake, sensing the unusual atmosphere.
Why was Matthew here, and what was he doing?
Clearly, he wasn't here with good intentions!
Robert frowned and said, "Mr. Montagu, you two are already divorced. Mary is here today on her own behalf."
Matthew's thin lips curved into a faint smile. "Who told you we were divorced?"
Mary suddenly looked up at him.
Robert's brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"
Matthew took the cake from Mary's hands and casually threw it on the ground, then grabbed her hand and said calmly, "Exactly what it sounds like."
Then he looked at Mary and said softly, "You've given the gift, now let's go home."
Mary stared at him in shock. "What do you mean?"
What did he mean by "exactly what it sounds like"?
Matthew looked at her bewildered expression, his smile deepening. "Was I not clear enough? Mary, we are not divorced."
It was as if something exploded in her heart.
Not divorced?
How could they not be divorced?
Matthew pulled her and turned to leave.
Robert's face also showed a hint of shock.
How was it possible that they hadn't divorced yet?
