Chapter 421 Divorce Mary and Marry Laura
Mary glanced at Matthew and noticed his blank expression, like he hadn't even heard Richard.
Was this really how the Montagu family's only son got treated?
The emergency room light flicked off, and the doctor walked out. Linda stepped forward and asked, "How's the patient?"
The doctor replied, "We got her here in time. The knife's out, and no major organs were hit."
Linda let out a sigh of relief and turned to Richard. "Don't worry, Laura's gonna be fine."
Richard nodded, then shot a look at Matthew. "Come here."
Matthew's face stayed cold, and he didn't budge.
He leaned toward Mary and whispered, "You tired?"
The tension in the air made Mary uneasy. She could feel the chill from Richard's dark expression and Matthew's aloof demeanor.
Should she be tired?
Matthew, however, looked at Richard and said, "She was scared. I'm taking her home to rest."
With that, he grabbed Mary's stuff and headed out.
"Stop right there!" Richard's angry voice echoed behind them.
Linda quickly chimed in, "Laura just got out of surgery. Can't you wait to see her? She got hurt saving Mary, after all."
Matthew's face was ice-cold. "You all can worry about her."
"So you really don't want to join the Montagu Group. The task I gave you is going nowhere, and now Laura's hurt, and you don't even care. How did I end up with such an ungrateful son?" Richard fumed, not caring about the scene he was making.
Especially with the possibility that Samuel might be alive, his attitude toward Matthew had gotten even worse.
After all, Matthew was never his ideal heir.
Matthew's face stayed indifferent. "Yeah, I'm curious too, whose genes are that strong."
Richard's face turned red with anger, and his finger shook as he pointed at Matthew.
Linda quickly tried to calm Richard down. "Richard, don't get mad. You two need to talk this out. This is a hospital; don't make a scene and embarrass us."
Richard snorted and said, "Matthew, you owe Laura too much. You're divorcing Mary and marrying Laura. The Montagu family can't have someone so ungrateful!"
The air suddenly froze, and everyone around could feel the tension.
Matthew's face stayed indifferent. He held Mary's hand and said, "You seem to like her a lot. If you want to be so righteous, why don't you marry her yourself?"
"You!" Richard's barely controlled temper flared up again, his eyes blazing as he pointed at Matthew.
Linda's face also looked a bit sour.
Just then, Laura's hospital bed was wheeled out.
Linda quickly directed them to take her to the VIP ward, then followed Richard to wait for Laura to wake up.
Outside the hospital, Mary felt a mix of emotions.
She looked at Matthew, wanting to say something.
Matthew noticed her gaze and smiled. "What's up? Feeling sorry for me?"
His face was still indifferent, showing no other emotions, but his eyes seemed clouded with something unreadable.
