Chapter 786 Venting Without Recognizing People
Mary's face went blank for a moment. She pulled her hand away and said, "Matthew, you better keep your promise."
Matthew's eyes showed a flicker of disappointment. His thin lips pressed into a straight line as he looked at Mary's delicate but icy face. He couldn't wrap his head around it. Last night, she was all over him, but now she was so distant?
Guess it was true what they said.
Once the thrill was gone, they acted like they didn't even know you.
The car's atmosphere turned cold and tense. Neither of them said another word.
Mary hadn't slept well the night before. When she got back to Maple Grove Manor, she asked Maria for some time off and went to bed to try and catch up on sleep.
But with so much on her mind, she couldn't sleep soundly no matter what.
After dozing off for about half an hour, she got up.
She headed to the studio, and as soon as she walked in, she saw Sean coming out of the office, looking pretty upset.
"What's up?" Mary asked casually, showing some concern.
Sean's eyes flickered when he saw her, then he said, "Nothing. Ms. Diaz and I are going on a business trip later."
Mary was taken aback. "A business trip?"
Maria had never gone on a business trip before. Besides, they hadn't even established themselves in Lindwood City yet, and they were already reaching out to clients elsewhere?
Was Maria really that ambitious?
Sean nodded, his eyes looking a bit complicated as he gazed at her, like he had something to say.
Mary blinked. "What is it?"
"Sean, go pack your things. We're leaving now."
Maria's voice came from behind.
Sean swallowed the words he was about to say. "It's nothing."
He walked past Mary and went back to his desk.
Mary's eyes showed a hint of confusion.
What was that all about?
Maria walked over and looked at Mary's somewhat haggard face. "Didn't you take the day off? You don't look well. You don't need to come to work."
Mary said, "I can't rest well at home either. It's better to come to work. If I stay busy, I'll sleep better tonight."
Maria nodded. "Makes sense. Sean and I will be on a business trip for about a week. During this time, just focus on finishing the design drafts. You don't need to worry about anything else."
"Got it."
Mary nodded. Even though Maria said that, she still needed to select a designer to take over her work.
She had to finalize the candidate before she left.
Back at her desk, she opened her computer and started working on the design drafts.
Kurt had no objections to the drafts. Everything was going according to her plans, which made things easier.
The winery would probably start construction soon. Once that happened, she could hand over the remaining work to the new designer and head to Diamond Ridge.
But before that, she needed to get the evidence.
She couldn't just accuse Rebecca without proof. No one would believe her.
They might even think she was blackmailing or falsely accusing Rebecca.
However, the evidence was in Matthew's hands. Getting it from him wouldn't be easy.
Mary thought carefully and made a decision.
In the evening.
She bought some groceries and went home to cook.
When the meal was almost ready, she called Matthew.
The phone was answered quickly, and Matthew's deep, magnetic voice came through.
Mary said, "Come over for dinner tonight."
Matthew's tone was tinged with surprise. "Is this a miracle? You're inviting me to your place for dinner?"
