Chapter 14 Laura Also Came

"What? Do you need someone to keep reminding you to eat?"A low, magnetic voice came up behind Mary. It was Matthew.

Mary opened her eyes and looked at him. "Matthew, have I ever done anything wrong to you?"

Matthew frowned, "What are you talking about?"

Mary said with a wry smile, "Why can't you smile at me now?"

Matthew's thin lips suddenly pressed into a straight line.

Mary walked towards him. "Is it because I refuse to divorce you? But that shouldn't be such a grave offense."

Mary's eyes sparkled as she stared into Matthew's eyes, trying to find her reflection in them. She found it, but there was no longer tenderness, only indifference. Matthew felt he should be responsible for Laura. And Mary'devotion all the year and all those beautiful moments seemed like a joke.

Matthew watched as the light in Mary's eyes dimmed and then said lightly, "Fine, I agree to the divorce."

Mary felt that keeping such a Matthew around was pointless. What she liked was the gentle andconsiderate Matthew whoseeyes were only fixed on her. But Matthew, having regained his memory, became different. He was no longer the Matthew she once knew.

As Mary walked past him, Matthew grabbed her wrist. Mary's breath hitched, and her long lashes quivered. "What?"

Matthew's thin lips moved, and he asked after a while, "Are you serious?"

Mary closed her eyes grimly, saying, "It's so ridiculous that there wasn't that little bit of trust left between us."

She pulled her hand away and left the bathroom.

Mary informed Linda and then left straight away.

Linda was surprised. "What happened? Mary didn't look well."

Richard said, "So petty, she's not a good match for a Montagu."

Laura flickered her eyes but said nothing. She turned to Matthew, seeing his furrowed brows and the increasing coldness around him.

"Matthew, time to eat."Laura called him gently.

"Okay."Matthew responded and walked over, sitting next to Laura.

Laura served him some food. "Your favorite dish."

"Thanks." Matthew said flatly, picking up his fork to eat.

But the next second, a memory flashed through his mind: Mary holding his hand, teaching him how to use knife and fork, whose beautiful face was full of seriousness. When he still couldn't get it, she angrily slapped his hand."You seem to so smart, but why so clumsy? Let me show you the last time. Watch carefully."

Then she taught him again and again until he finally got how to handle them.

Thinking about this, Matthew abruptly closed his eyes.

Laura quickly asked, "Matthew, what's wrong with you?"Matthew put down his fork and stood up, saying, "I have something to do. Enjoy yourself."

He stormed out immediately. Mary walked out of Montagu's Mansion and onto the empty main road. She wanted to call a cab, but it was too far from the urban area so that no drivers came this way. Her feet were blistered after walking such a long distance since she wore a pair of stiletto heels to match her dress. She took off her heels and carried them in her hand. Herface was scrunched up in pain.

Just at the instant, she heard the sound of the engine behind her. She turned around, thinking it was a taxi, but it was Matthew. She immediately averted her gaze and kept walking. But the car stopped right in front of her. Matthew got out and walked up to her with his dark and brooding face.

Mary instinctively took two steps back. "What? Are you going to hit me?"

The next second, Matthew held her up.
