Chapter 656 An Unexplained Sense of Familiarity

"Sure." Mary nodded and took out her phone to exchange contact information with Joey.

The caregiver had almost finished packing up, and Shirley had returned after completing the discharge procedures.

"Mr. Cooper is here too," Shirley said with a slight smile when she saw him. "Would you like to join us for a walk?"

Joey looked at Mary, "Can I?"

Mary smiled, "Of course, you're always welcome at my place."

Joey's smile deepened, "Then I'll accept your invitation."

The group left the hospital.

Upon arriving at Maple Grove Manor, Joey couldn't help but praise, "The environment here is nice, definitely much better than the hospital."

Mary nodded, "Yes."

Back home, the caregiver familiarized herself with the surroundings while Shirley helped Mary sit on the couch.

Joey stood on the balcony for a while, then turned around and said, "One caregiver might not be enough. How about this, I'll hire another one to cook for you, so you can rest easy."

Mary paused and said, "I can hire one myself, Mr. Cooper, thank you."

But Joey insisted, "No, I'll do it. You got hurt because of me; it's the least I can do."

After a pause, he added somewhat helplessly, "When other people get into car accidents, they expect the responsible party to take care of everything. Why are you refusing?"

Shirley chimed in, "Because she's someone who hates trouble. Doing that would be especially troublesome for her."

Joey chuckled, "I see."

Mary shrugged, "I prefer simple people and things."

Joey stared at her and said, "But the more you want simplicity, the more you get entangled in complicated matters."

Mary forced a smile, "That's life; it's frustrating."

The atmosphere became somewhat oppressive.

Shirley said, "Getting discharged is something to celebrate, why talk about unhappy things? Mary, what do you want to eat today? How about I cook for you?"

Mary looked at her, "You make a sandwich for me?"

Shirley immediately said, "Are you kidding? How could I make that? If I'm cooking, it's going to be a burger!"

Mary was amused.

The oppressive atmosphere instantly disappeared.

Joey looked at Shirley and couldn't help but praise, "You're amazing! you can make her laugh with just a few words."

Shirley shook her head, "It's not me, but rather that she's easily amused."

Joey raised an eyebrow, "So we have something in common; I'm easily amused too."

They chatted casually, and time passed quickly.

For some reason, even though she wasn't familiar with Joey, Mary always felt very relaxed around him.

Just as Joey mentioned, an inexplicable sense of familiarity arose.

Mary was puzzled but enjoyed the feeling.

It was so novel to her.

Just then, the doorbell rang. The caregiver went to open the door and saw Robert standing there.

"It looks like I came at the right time," Robert said as he walked in, a slight smile on his handsome, delicate face.

Mary glanced at him. He had left abruptly after receiving a phone call last time and hadn't been back since.

Had he finished dealing with his matters?

"Robert, you're just in time. What do you want for lunch?" Shirley asked with a smile when she saw him.
