Chapter 724 No Chance for Redemption?

The air was tinged with a faint scent of alcohol.

For a moment, the private room fell silent. It wasn't just quiet here; even the room next door had gone still.

The room wasn't soundproof, and Shirley's voice was loud enough to be heard clearly.

Herman and Anthony both looked at Matthew, their expressions unreadable.

Matthew's strikingly handsome face remained calm, betraying no emotion, though his fingers tightened slightly around his wine glass.

After a long pause, Mary's soft and cool voice broke the silence, "No, it won't."

Matthew lifted his glass and downed its contents in one go.

Shirley chuckled, "That's right. How can you keep falling into the same trap over and over again? Unless you want to end up with nothing left."

Mary's smile was faint, her tone calm, "You're drunk. Let's go."

Shirley cradled her face in her hands, "Sure, I'm sleeping with you tonight."

Mary stood up, helping Shirley to her feet, and the two of them left the room.

At the same time, the sliding door next door opened, and the distinguished Herman stepped out.

Shirley glanced over suspiciously and immediately spotted Herman. She smiled and called out, "Come over here and carry me!"

Mary was speechless.

Herman walked over and wrapped his arms around her, "Can't you behave for once?"

Shirley clung to his collar, looking up at him, "Why should I behave?"

She was drunk, and Herman knew she wouldn't listen to anything he said, so he didn't bother arguing.

He turned to Mary, "I'll take her home."

Mary nodded, "Alright, be safe."

It seemed like they were really dating.

Everyone left the bar, and Anthony called for a driver. He glanced at Matthew but didn't ask any questions before leaving.

Mary headed towards her car.

Steady footsteps followed her, unhurried, but she could feel a heated gaze lingering on her.

As Mary opened her car door to get in, a well-defined hand suddenly pressed against the door, stopping her.

Mary looked up at him, calmly asking, "What is it?"

Matthew's tall figure stood before her, the cool night breeze ruffling his black coat, which shielded her from most of the chill.

"I've been drinking, so I can't drive. Can you give me a ride?" he asked in a low voice, his deep eyes fixed on her.

Mary replied, "It's not convenient."

Matthew didn't take his eyes off her, "You don't have to keep your distance from me. I just need a ride."

Mary said, "You can call a driver."

Matthew responded, "My phone's dead."

Mary was speechless.

Of course, he had an excuse ready.

It seemed she couldn't refuse.

Forgot it.

It was just a ride, and she wasn't that petty.

Mary said, "Let go."

Seeing her relent, Matthew released his grip and walked around to the passenger side, getting into the car.

The car's interior was small, and the faint scent of alcohol filled the space. Mary started the car and drove towards Maple Grove Manor. The ride was quiet, both of them calm.

"Is there no chance for redemption after making a mistake?"

In the quiet car, Matthew's deep, magnetic voice suddenly broke the silence, slightly hoarse and hard to read.

Mary's fingers tightened on the steering wheel, "What happened between us can't be fixed with a single apology or admission of guilt."
