Chapter 677 Knowing His Background

"Mary, don't worry! I'm getting you out of here!" Robert yelled into the factory.

Roy shot him a dirty look, clearly irritated. "Damn it! How dare you start shouting right in front of me?"

Robert locked eyes with Roy. "So, you told Matthew and asked him for money too. If I paid you and he didn't, you still wouldn't let her go, right?"

"That's right," Roy replied, playing with his lighter, making everyone uneasy.

Robert's expression turned icy. "Kidnapping and extortion are serious crimes. You just got out of prison. Do you really want to go back so soon?"

Roy smirked. "As long as you pay up and help me get away, how would I get caught?"

His eyes sparkled with a hint of madness. "Hurry up and decide. My patience is running thin."

Robert turned to his subordinate. "Go to the bank and transfer the money."

Then he looked back at Roy. "Give me your account number."

Roy was surprised by Robert's quick compliance but quickly recited his account number.

Robert took a step forward, his usually gentle eyes now cold and piercing. "Does she know what you're doing?"

Roy's expression tightened and his gaze hardened. "What do you know?"

He was almost frantic. "That damn woman lied to me! Why should I care about her feelings?"

"But isn't everything you're doing for a better life with her?" Robert asked.

Roy's eyes reddened, gripping his knife tightly but still in control. "What's your relationship with her? How do you know so much? Who are you?"

Robert stepped closer, closing the distance between them. "Who I am doesn't matter. What matters is if you let Mary go now, I'll help you leave the country and give you enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life. How about it?"

The offer was tempting!

Robert clearly knew his secrets, and Roy began to waver.

But then a woman's face flashed in his mind, and he quickly regained his composure.

"Step back!" Roy barked.

The wind rustled the leaves, masking some of the sounds.

When Matthew arrived, he saw Robert facing off with Roy. Narrowing his eyes, he made a call.

"Matthew, what's up?" Joan's voice came through.

"Joan, Robert has a woman he really likes. He's going to leave you for her," Matthew said coldly.

"What!" Joan's voice shot up. "Matthew, are you serious?"

"When have I ever lied to you?" Matthew replied.

Joan, now agitated, said, "I'm calling him right now to get to the bottom of this!"

She hung up and immediately dialed Robert's number.

Robert, deep in thought about his next move, was startled by his ringing phone. Seeing the caller ID, he frowned and ignored the call, looking back at Roy.

"Everything you've done today won't make her leave with you. She'll just see you as a burden. Think about it. How many times has she seen you since you got back?"
