Chapter 793 Not a Good Thing Either

When Joey brought up Rebecca, his face showed a mix of fondness and frustration.

Mary watched him for a bit before speaking up, "I've got a question for you."

"Sure, shoot."

Joey looked at her with kind eyes. For some reason, every time he saw Mary, he felt a strange sense of familiarity, which made him more patient.

Mary thought for a moment and said, "I know someone whose identity got stolen by another person. This imposter took everything that was hers and even tried to ruin her, like setting fires and poisoning her. What do you think my friend should do?"

Joey listened, his brow furrowing. "Your friend should call out the imposter and take back what's hers."

Mary looked at him quietly. "Is that really what you think?"

"Absolutely." Joey nodded firmly. "This imposter steals your friend's identity and her parents' love, and still trying to destroy her. That's just plain evil."

Mary lowered her gaze a bit, her long lashes hiding her feelings. "I'm glad you think that way."

Joey said, "By the way, who is this friend of yours? If she needs help, let me know."

"No need, she's already figured out a way." Mary gave a small smile.

"That's good."

Joey nodded, and the conversation shifted back to her and Matthew.

"Think about what I said. Matthew's not the right guy for you."

Mary replied calmly, "I'll think about it."

Just then, the waiter knocked and came in to serve their meal.

Joey and Mary surprisingly had similar tastes, which made Joey feel even closer to her.

After dinner, the sky was completely dark, and the city lights were just starting to twinkle. Joey drove Mary back to Maple Grove Manor before heading out.

Back at the hotel, Rebecca eagerly approached him. "Joey, how'd it go? Did she agree?"

Joey affectionately ruffled her hair. "She said she'd think about it."

Rebecca immediately pouted, "Come on, saying she'll think about it is just an excuse. How could you believe that? She definitely won't divorce Matthew, but I really like Matthew, Joey. Please help me, help me out."

"Rebecca!"

Joey already felt a lot of guilt for agreeing to talk to Mary on her behalf, especially when he thought of Mary's clear, bright eyes. He couldn't do anything more.

"If you like Matthew, then wait until they're divorced and win him over. Make him fall for you, instead of using your status and power to do something wrong."

His words were harsh, and Rebecca was taken aback at first. Then her eyes reddened, and tears began to fall.

"If you won't help, fine, but why say that to me? You're such a jerk. I don't like you anymore!"

With that, she ran off crying.

"Rebecca!"

Seeing this, Joey tried to follow her, but Rebecca ran straight to her room, locked the door, and ignored him completely.

He sighed helplessly. What a mess.
