Chapter 717 Mary, I Miss You So Much
Matthew called out to Mary.
"What?" Mary sounded puzzled.
"Did you miss me?" Matthew asked.
Mary was speechless. She hung up the phone with a blank expression. What was wrong with Matthew? How could she possibly miss him?
Moments later, her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen.
Matthew: [I miss you. A lot.]
Mary's eyelid twitched, and she quickly put her phone away. For some reason, her heart started pounding uncontrollably. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down, finally feeling a bit more composed. This was crazy.
Three days flew by.
Mary dialed Matthew's number again. "Are you back?"
Matthew didn't respond.
"Matthew?" Mary called his name, checking her phone.
"I'm at Montagu Mansion. Come over," he said, then hung up.
What was going on? Why did she need to go to Montagu Mansion? Couldn't they just meet at the construction site? But knowing Matthew's odd temperament, she decided not to overthink it and just follow his instructions.
Her car was fixed, so she drove to Montagu Mansion and texted him when she arrived.
Mary: [I'm here.]
After a moment, the passenger door opened, and Matthew's tall figure, accompanied by a gust of cold wind, got in.
Mary glanced at him and started the car. But the next second, he grabbed her hand.
Matthew's hand was warm, enveloping her small hand and spreading heat.
Mary frowned slightly and tried to pull her hand away. "What are you doing?"
Matthew's narrow eyes stared at her. "I'm a bit cold. Warm me up."
"You're crazy," Mary muttered, pulling her hand back and starting the car towards the construction site.
As they got closer, the outline of the villa came into view.
Matthew stared at it and suddenly asked, "Are you satisfied with your work?"
Mary admired the villa's structure and nodded. "Yeah, I am."
When it came to work, she didn't let personal feelings interfere. She always aimed for the best and most perfect outcome. And she had a soft spot for this villa.
Matthew opened the car door and walked towards the villa. Mary followed him, noting the courtyard's outline. Once everything was built, it would be beautiful.
Matthew inspected everything carefully, while Mary followed, taking notes.
After two hours of thorough inspection, Mary was exhausted.
Matthew finished checking the last area and looked at her with deep eyes. "Not bad."
Mary handed him the documents. "Then sign here."
Once he signed, the final payment could be made, and the project would be complete. She could then resign and prepare for the court case. If she won, she could leave Lindwood City. The future seemed bright.
Matthew looked at the documents in her hand, then suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled her close.
"You..."
Mary was startled, but before she could say anything, Matthew cupped the back of her neck and kissed her.
Mary's eyes widened, her muscles tensing up. But the kiss was brief, like a gust of wind, and it was over quickly.
Matthew released her and, seeing the resistance in her eyes that hadn't fully formed, saying, "Mary, I missed you. I couldn't help it. I'm sorry."
