Chapter 664 Will You Waver?

Herman's words were clearly meant to get back at him, and he promptly hung up the phone.

Matthew let out a small chuckle and pulled a cigarette from his pocket, lighting it up.

It was dusk, and the sunset painted the western sky in a dazzling array of colors.

Mary, feeling tired, sat down on a bench, gazing at the lake that mirrored the deep blue sky.

Shirley handed her a bottle of water and said, "Mary, I have a feeling..."

She trailed off.

Mary took a sip of water and looked at her curiously. "What is it?"

Shirley sighed softly. "It seems like Matthew is trying to get close to you again. When the tough approach didn't work, he's now trying a softer one."

Mary tightened her grip on the water bottle.

Shirley looked at her intently, her usual playful demeanor replaced with seriousness. "Are you going to waver?"

Mary's long eyelashes fluttered as she shook her head. "No."

Shirley continued, "Even though he was once the love of your life, and now he's trying to make amends and live a good life with you, you still won't waver?"

This time, Mary was more resolute. "No."

Shirley smiled slightly. "It's okay if you do waver, you know."

Mary glanced at her in surprise.

Shirley's gaze shifted to the lake. "It all depends on how far he's willing to go. If he's willing to die for you and actually does, then it's not too late to reconsider."

Mary laughed. She knew Shirley wouldn't accept Matthew so easily.

Matthew was the type to do everything based on his own preferences, a classic egotist. He would never do anything to harm himself or put himself in danger.

She took another sip of water and said, "It's getting late. Let's head back."

"Okay." Shirley nodded and helped her up.

When they opened the door, the living room was empty. It was the servants' and caregivers' break time, and they were all in their rooms.

Mary went to the master bedroom and said to Shirley, "I'm not feeling well. I need to take a bath. Can you wait outside and hand me my things?"

Shirley offered, "Let me help you. I don't feel comfortable with you doing it alone."

Mary smiled gently. "It's fine. I'll sit on the stool and take my time."

Seeing her insistence, Shirley didn't argue further.

Mary entered the bathroom, adjusted the water temperature, and then undressed.

She had injuries, and some areas couldn't get wet. She carefully applied waterproof bandages and washed slowly.

By the time she was done, she was exhausted.

She took a moment to catch her breath and called out, "Shirley, can you hand me my pajamas?"

As she dried her hair with a towel, the bathroom door opened. She instinctively looked up and saw Matthew walking in, holding her pajamas.

Mary's eyes widened, and she quickly covered her chest. "Who allowed you to come in? Get out!"

Matthew stood a short distance away, looking at her sitting on the stool. Under the bright lights, her skin glowed, and some areas were still bruised. She looked at him in panic.

Her hands covered her chest, but it was futile.

She felt even more awkward when she tried to cover up, standing there completely naked.

Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Don't you want your pajamas?"

Mary gritted her teeth. "Give me the pajamas!"

Matthew stepped closer.

Mary immediately said, "Just throw them to me! Don't come any closer!"
