Chapter 266 Perhaps It's Freedom
Mary can't handle her booze; after just half a beer, she was already tipsy.
Matthew stared at her. "What now?"
Mary slumped on the table. "Let's just get a divorce."
Matthew's face darkened.
He looked at her flushed face; she had fallen asleep, unlike before when she'd cling to him. He felt a bit upset.
Matthew thought, 'Divorce? No way!'
He tucked her hair behind her ear and said softly, "Mary, if you'd agreed to the divorce back then, you might be free now, but it's too late."
Just then, Mark walked over, smiling. "Sir, Mary can't handle her liquor. You should tell her not to drink; it's risky."
"Yeah, I know."
Matthew nodded.
He stood up and took out his wallet to pay.
But Mark said, "No need to pay, just think of it as home. Take her back quickly, don't let her catch a cold!"
Matthew nodded. "Alright, sir."
Mark chuckled, watching as Matthew easily lifted Mary with one arm.
Michael was already waiting in the car by the roadside. Seeing Matthew carrying Mary out, he quickly got out and opened the back door.
Michael asked, "Mr. Montagu, is your injury okay?"
"I'm fine."
Matthew got in and said, "Let's go back."
"Yes," Michael responded.
Sitting in the driver's seat, Michael thought for a moment and then said, "Mr. Montagu, Sam has recovered and is now in Lindenville. He said he doesn't dare to see you but wants to protect you from the shadows."
Matthew's brow furrowed.
Michael sensed the tension and said, "I'll have him leave right away."
Matthew said, "Have him protect Mary."
Michael was stunned. Sam had issues with Mary; how could he protect her properly?
Matthew seemed to read his thoughts and said coldly, "If anything goes wrong again, let him die outside and not show up to annoy me."
"Yes."
Michael responded.
The car quickly returned to the Opulent Oasis Hotel. Michael helped Matthew get Mary upstairs before leaving.
Downstairs, Michael saw Sam pacing nearby.
Michael walked over, patted his shoulder, and said, "You have a chance to make amends."
Sam, still looking pale, immediately looked at him. "What did Mr. Montagu say?"
"Protect Ms. Smith," Michael answered.
Sam was stunned; he hadn't expected that.
Michael said, "I don't get it. Are you following Mr. Montagu or Laura? Why are you so biased towards Laura? Do you like her?"
Sam shook his head frantically. "No, don't talk nonsense. Ms. Sarah saved Mr. Montagu back then. She even lost a leg because of it. Doesn't such a woman deserve to be cherished?"
Michael looked at him deeply and suddenly said, "If you think that way, they must be very confident they've fooled everyone, right?"
Sam was stunned. "What do you mean by that?"
