Chapter 416 Sorry
"Which guy?" Mary was momentarily thrown off.
Matthew shot her a frosty look. The room was freezing, and the bed was a mess, still showing signs of their recent intimacy. But the chill seemed to seep right into Mary's bones.
"I was drunk last night. I don't remember anything," Mary said.
Matthew sneered, "You know you can't handle your booze, and you still drink alone?"
His tone was dripping with blame, like she'd done something wrong.
Feeling wronged, Mary shot back, "Matthew, did you even bother to find out why I was drinking? What gives you the right to blame me?"
Her defenses were up in an instant.
The tension in the room was thick until Matthew's phone rang, breaking the silence.
He answered, "Yeah, what is it?"
Michael, sensing the tension, cautiously said, "Sir, I found out that Felix, the project manager at Evercrest Properties, had Mrs. Montagu come over to discuss blueprint changes. He wouldn't let her leave, and others joined in, blocked her, forced her to drink, and even said..."
His voice trailed off, too scared to continue.
Matthew's voice turned icy. "Why'd you stop?"
Michael hesitated. "They also insulted Mrs. Montagu. I've got all their names. What do you want to do about it?"
Matthew's tone was even colder. "Do I need to spell it out for you?"
Michael was silent. He thought, 'Do I need to? Are you planning to let it slide or get revenge for Mary? I can't tell! Your relationship with Mary is so confusing!'
Matthew looked at Mary with a deep gaze and coldly said to Michael, "Cut all ties with them. Release everything you have."
"Yes, sir!" Michael quickly hung up.
Matthew intended to ruin those people completely. The info he had showed they were into some shady stuff.
After the call, the atmosphere felt even colder.
Mary didn't look at Matthew and turned to leave.
"Wait." Matthew's deep voice stopped her.
Mary felt a surge of anger and turned back. "What now?"
Matthew walked towards her, his lips pressed into a thin line. "I won't let those people off," he said.
He stared at her and added, "I'm sorry."
He had misunderstood her.
Mary's expression froze, but she felt no emotional shift. She didn't need his apology, nor did she need him.
She turned and left.
Matthew frowned.
What was that about? He had apologized, and she didn't even react?
Mary went downstairs to eat, and Maria's call came through. "What's going on? A bunch of people showed up at the studio looking for you. They seem pretty desperate."
Mary's expression hardened, thinking of what Matthew had said.
He had ordered those people to be dealt with, and now they were coming to her.
They wanted her forgiveness.
Mary said coldly, "Just send them away."
Maria chuckled. "Alright, your call."
After she hanging up, Matthew came over and sat next to her to start eating.
Mary got up and left without giving him a second glance.
