Chapter 367 The Bet
Mary locked eyes with him and said, "Mark's not like that."
Matthew chuckled. "Wanna bet?"
Mary tightened her grip on her utensils and nodded. "Alright, what's the wager?"
Matthew smirked. "If he takes my offer and leaves Lindwood City, you can't mention divorce again."
Mary clenched her teeth. "Fine, but if he doesn't, we get divorced, and you have to let Gerald go."
Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Mary, that's two conditions."
Mary paused, then said, "Just release Gerald."
Matthew stared at her for a moment. "Deal."
Mary was convinced Mark would never trade his son for money. He'd always said Gerald was his only child!
After breakfast, Matthew left.
Mary got in touch with a real estate agent to find a place.
The agent was quick and sent over some listings. Mary went to check them out right away.
She finally picked a small two-bedroom apartment, rented it for three months, and by the time everything was set, it was already afternoon.
Mary called Mark. "Mark, I got the place. I'll come get you."
Mark replied, "Oh, okay."
When Mary saw Mark, she noticed the dark circles under his eyes, showing he hadn't slept well.
Mary asked, "Mark, have you eaten?"
Mark sighed. "Just a little. Without any news about Gerald, I can't eat."
Mary reassured him, "Mark, Gerald will be okay."
Mark didn't say anything, just sighed again. Gerald had been beaten so badly, how could he be okay?
When they got to the apartment, Mary opened the door and said, "Mark, today you're gonna taste my cooking. I'm pretty good at it!"
Mark glanced at her. "Really? Well, I gotta try it then."
Mary had already bought the ingredients and started cooking.
An hour later, dinner was ready. Mark washed his hands, sat down, and took a bite. His eyes lit up. "Wow, this is really good!"
Mary smiled. "Told ya."
Mark said, "With cooking like this, if you opened a restaurant, it would definitely be a hit. Trust me, I've been there and done that!"
Mary chuckled. "I believe you. Maybe when I retire, I'll open a little place."
Mark nodded.
For a moment, they both forgot about Gerald.
After dinner, Mary cleaned up the dishes and said, "Mark, I'll leave the keys with you. If you need anything, just call me. I live nearby, so I can come over quickly."
"Alright." Mark nodded, feeling really touched.
Mary tidied up and left.
Not long after, Mark's phone rang. It was his wife. "Hello?"
Karen Wright's voice came through. "Mark, have you found Gerald?"
"Not yet. I can't even get through their door, but I talked to Mary. She said she has a way," Mark said.
Karen's voice was hesitant. "Mark, this afternoon, our bank account suddenly had three million dollars deposited. Where did it come from?"
Mark stood up abruptly. "What did you say? Three million dollars?"
