Chapter 841 She Did Not Run Away
Matthew stared at Shirley intensely, trying to figure out if she was faking it.
"What are you looking at? I'm asking you a question!" Shirley took two steps forward, struggling to keep her emotions in check.
If Matthew had hurt Mary again, she would fight him with everything she had!
Herman grabbed her arm and said, "No, you know how Matthew's been treating Mary lately. Plus, with everything going on online, he's been swamped. He hasn't seen Mary in days. How could he have done anything to upset her?"
Shirley's eyes were red as she glared at Matthew. "Really?"
Matthew stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray and asked hoarsely, "Did she ever mention wanting to leave or anything like that?"
Shirley froze. That was right! How could she have forgotten?
Mary had talked about leaving before, and she had planned to take Shirley with her!
And knowing Mary, she wouldn't just disappear without a word. She would have told Shirley.
So, Mary didn't leave on her own; she was kidnapped!
Shirley paced the living room, considering all the possibilities.
"The only person Mary would be worried about is Nora. Could someone have used Nora to lure Mary into a trap?"
Shirley clapped her hands suddenly. "That's very likely! They must have threatened Mary with something involving Nora. Mary was coerced!"
Matthew's eyes darkened. He hadn't considered that angle.
Mary had deliberately shaken off South and North, disguised herself, and left her phone behind in that house before disappearing.
It all pointed to her leaving voluntarily.
But what if someone had forced her to do it?
After all, she couldn't have planned it so meticulously on her own.
At the very least, she wouldn't have left Shirley behind, knowing that Matthew would make things difficult for her.
Understanding the complexity of the situation, Matthew's expression grew even more grim.
Who had threatened Mary?
Where had they taken her?
Shirley rushed up to him. "Matthew, you have to find her! You must find her!"
Matthew replied, "I will find her."
The strong demeanor on Shirley's face faded, and she looked at him with red eyes, lips tightly pressed together.
She couldn't say anything more.
But she had to place her hope in Matthew.
Praying that he would find Mary quickly.
Mary couldn't be harmed!
Meanwhile, Mary sat numbly on the floor, surrounded by darkness and unfamiliarity.
She was filled with fear.
Just then, the sound of the door opening reached her ears.
Liliana's voice followed. "Ms. Smith, dinner is ready. Would you like to eat something?"
"Get out."
Mary's voice was hoarse, and she remained motionless on the floor.
Liliana said nothing more and left.
Dinner. So, it was evening already?
Had she been missing for this long? Had Matthew noticed?
Thinking of him, she bit her lip in self-reproach.
She had been so foolish!
She had shaken off South and North and hadn't even told Matthew where she was going!
Mary hugged her knees, tears streaming down her face.
