Chapter 611 This Kind of Joke Will Only Harm Her
"Friend?"
Matthew chuckled as if he had heard a joke. "Shirley is desperately trying to set you two up, practically begging you to get married, and you call this friendship?"
Mary's mouth twitched slightly as she said, "She just likes to joke around. Whether we're friends or not is up to me."
Matthew replied, "Then tell her that these jokes are only going to hurt her."
Mary's mouth twitched again. Besides Matthew, Shirley thought Mary could date any man.
Shirley absolutely despised Matthew.
Mary said, "So, can you stop targeting Sean, please?"
Matthew's face turned cold. "We'll talk about this later."
The elevator doors opened just then, and he walked out.
Another ambiguous answer.
Mary sighed and muttered to herself, "What's the deal? Why can't we discuss this?"
When she arrived at the studio, she saw Sean looking exhausted. Clearly, he hadn't rested well the night before.
However, the bruises on his face had improved a bit; the ointment was working well.
She walked over and asked, "Is Mrs. Huxley's condition stable?"
Sean nodded. "She's stable now, but the sudden discharge and transfer caused her old illness to flare up again."
Mary frowned. "Is it serious?"
Sean gave a bitter smile. "It's all old issues. Even minor ailments can be very tormenting when they recur."
Mary felt a pang of guilt; it was her fault that Lisa was suffering.
"I'll visit Mrs. Huxley at the hospital later," Mary said after some thought.
Sean seemed surprised by her words but also a bit delighted. "Wouldn't that be too much trouble for you?"
Mary smiled. "Never mind. We're friends. It's only natural for me to visit her."
Sean said, "My mom actually wants to meet you to thank you in person."
Mary replied, "Don't let her think that way. The most important thing now is for her to recover. Once she's better, we can talk about anything."
Sean nodded. "Alright, I'll let her know."
After work, Mary first bought some fruit, snacks, and nutritional supplements before heading to the hospital with Sean.
The VIP ward was very quiet, with hardly any noise.
When they opened the door to the room, they saw a caregiver helping the frail Lisa with her meal.
"Mom, my colleague is here to see you," Sean said as he walked in and naturally took over from the caregiver, smiling.
Mary walked over and said, "Mrs. Huxley, hello, I'm Mary. I wasn't sure what you like to eat, so I just bought a few things. Eating these regularly will be good for your recovery."
Lisa smiled. "I'm just happy you came. No need for gifts. Please, have a seat."
Mary nodded and asked, "Mrs. Huxley, are you comfortable here?"
Lisa nodded. "Very comfortable. The environment here is much better than the previous hospital. I can even sleep well at night."
Mary smiled and nodded. "That's good to hear."
Lisa asked, "Ms. Smith, are you also an architectural designer?"
Mary nodded. "Yes, I am."
Sean said, "Mom, don't you remember? I got into the studio because she introduced me."
Lisa was momentarily stunned, then said, "Sorry, I really forgot. We must thank Ms. Smith properly. Sean, don't just stand there. Take her out for a meal."
