Chapter 451 She Will Definitely Cling to Matthew
"That's Matthew's wife, right? She's pretty cute!"
"Yeah, she totally uses her looks to hang onto Matthew. Word is, she saved him when he had amnesia and then married him. When he got his memory back, she wouldn't let him go."
"Having snagged a rich guy, how could she let go so easily?"
"Just watch, the Montagu family is gonna be stuck with her."
People around were gossiping about Mary.
They either stared at her with curiosity or disdain, but no one was friendly.
Mary heard it all, kept her eyes down, and wore a polite smile.
After what felt like forever, the speeches ended, and the banquet kicked off.
Victoria clung to Mary's hand, not even going to eat.
Linda asked, "Mary, can you stay with Victoria for a bit? We need to mingle."
"Sure," Mary nodded.
She was dying to get out of there anyway.
She wheeled Victoria out of the courtyard and into the garden, where it was quiet and empty.
Victoria suddenly said, "I don't like it."
Mary was confused, bent down, and asked, "What did you say, Grandma?"
Victoria pouted. "I don't like those people; I want them all gone!"
She spoke childishly, her face full of unhappiness.
Mary chuckled, "They're here for your birthday."
Victoria insisted, "I don't need them!"
Mary found it funny and asked, "Are you hungry, Grandma? Want something to eat?"
Victoria shook her head. "No, I want a flower crown."
Mary was surprised; Victoria remembered the flower crown Mary had made for her before.
"Alright, I'll make one for you," Mary said, looking around at the blooming flowers. They were beautiful.
"Yay!" Victoria clapped her hands, sitting in her wheelchair.
Mary walked into the flower bushes, picking flowers carefully.
Suddenly, she heard Victoria's terrified scream and saw her wheelchair speeding downhill!
There were stone steps at the bottom, and if the wheelchair flipped, Victoria would get hurt!
Mary's heart stopped, and she dropped the flowers, running after Victoria!
Victoria screamed, and the wheelchair picked up speed!
Just as it was about to flip, someone dashed out, stood in front of the wheelchair, and stopped it!
Mary let out a huge sigh of relief!
But Victoria was bawling, her face a mess of tears and snot.
Mary rushed over to comfort her, "It's okay, Grandma."
But Victoria wouldn't stop crying.
Mary was at a loss, not knowing how to calm her down.
She glanced at the person who stopped the wheelchair but only saw their side and back as they walked away.
It was a servant from Montagu Manor, wearing a uniform and a mask.
"What happened?" Someone came over, drawn by Victoria's crying, and seeing her so upset, called for others.
Mary was pushed aside, watching as they took Victoria inside, and she followed, worried.
"What happened?" Richard's face was dark as he looked around, demanding answers.
