Chapter 704 He Agreed
The sun was setting, casting a soft glow over everything. The deep blue sky slowly spread out, and her silhouette was enveloped and stretched by the light.
Matthew stood there quietly, watching her for a long time, as if mesmerized.
Mary felt a gaze on her and turned around, meeting Matthew's intense eyes.
She blinked, "When did you come out?"
Judging by his demeanor, it seemed he had been out for a while.
She walked over to him and handed him an orange soda, "Want some?"
Victoria was too old and her body couldn't handle it, but Mary still bought it because she really liked orange soda.
Matthew took it and asked, "What do you want for dinner?"
Mary replied, "I'll eat at home."
Matthew asked, "Can I join you?"
His deep eyes gazed at her, his voice low and pleasant, his tone gentle as he made his request.
Mary shook her head, "No."
She was just there to visit Victoria. Did he think he could eat her cooking? Dream on.
She took off the bracelet from her wrist and handed it to him, "We're getting divorced soon. It's not appropriate for me to wear this. You should take it back and give it to your future wife."
Matthew took it, looking at the smooth bracelet that still carried her warmth.
"Mary, is there really no room for reconciliation? Do we have to get divorced?"
Mary looked at him and said, "There was no room for negotiation."
Even if he risked his life to save her.
Deep down, she still wanted to divorce him.
It was as if by doing so, she could be reborn.
Matthew saw the deep longing in her eyes and pressed his thin lips together. After a long while, he finally said, "Alright, I agree."
In this peaceful dusk, the wind blew gently outside, bringing a slight chill.
He finally relented.
They would get divorced.
Mary could hardly believe it, looking at him in surprise, "Are you serious?"
"Yes." Matthew nodded, his eyes calm, "I can't keep holding onto you. If I do, you'll only drift further away."
Mary smiled, "Then let's go to the courthouse tomorrow and get divorced."
She didn't want to make a big deal out of the divorce. After all, it was just between the two of them.
"Okay." Matthew agreed.
Mary turned and walked outside. Even though they weren't officially divorced yet, she felt a sense of relief.
Matthew's attitude likely determined whether this matter could be resolved smoothly.
On the way back, she couldn't help but smile.
Matthew glanced at her from time to time, his gaze always lingering on her smile.
It seemed like she hadn't smiled like that in a long time.
His eyes held a bit of longing, wanting to capture and keep her by his side.
But he restrained himself.
Dusk quickly passed, and night fell. Mary returned home, went into the kitchen to cook, and even hummed a tune.
Shirley came out and saw this, asking curiously, "What's going on?"
Mary said, "I'm in a good mood."
Shirley looked at her inquisitively, "What made you so happy? Did you win a hundred million dollars in the lottery?"
Mary glanced at her, "Even better than winning a hundred million dollars."
