Chapter 792 Joey Persuades Her to Divorce

It was the dead of winter, and the first snow had just blanketed the ground. Mary pulled her scarf snugly around her face as she stepped out of the building. The sky was already dark, and she noticed a car parked nearby.

Her steps slowed when she spotted Joey in a black coat.

"Hey, Mr. Cooper."

Mary walked over with a slight smile. "Sorry if I kept you waiting."

Joey gave a small smile and opened the car door. "Nah, I just got here. Hop in."

"Alright." Mary nodded.

Joey had reached out to her out of the blue today, saying he wanted to meet up. She was a bit puzzled but didn't turn him down.

Technically, Joey was her brother.

Maybe she could feel him out and see what his deal was.

The car's heater was cranked up, and Mary took off her scarf, the warmth quickly chasing away the chill.

They drove straight to a restaurant, and once they were settled in a private room, Joey said, "I came back all of a sudden. Hope I didn't catch you off guard?"

"No, it's fine. Did you wrap up everything in Lindenville?" Mary asked.

Joey nodded. "Yeah, got it all sorted, so I came back."

He sat across from her, taking in her features.

She had an elegant, refined look. She usually wore light makeup, sometimes adding a splash of color with bright lipstick. Even so, her beauty was striking.

Her gaze was gentle, her eyes clear, and she looked at him like she had nothing to hide.

Joey thought about what he wanted to say next. Facing those clear eyes, he suddenly felt at a loss for words.

"Mr. Cooper, why'd you want to see me?" Mary asked when he stayed quiet.

Joey sighed softly and asked, "Are you and Matthew not planning to split up?"

Mary's expression froze. Was this about her and Matthew?

She asked, "Why do you ask?"

Joey looked at her with a hint of guilt but still tried to persuade her. "I know you're not happy with him. You won't be happy together. It's better if you split up, so you won't feel pain and sadness."

Joey was actually here to talk her into a divorce.

In two weeks, the cooling-off period would be over.

She and Matthew would go through with the divorce.

She hadn't made a big deal about it and didn't see the need to.

But Joey's attitude made her curious, so she asked directly, "You seem really eager for me to get divorced. Why?"

Joey couldn't possibly tell her the real reason.

He couldn't say it was because Rebecca had her eyes on Matthew and wanted to take him away.

He couldn't say that to Mary. He didn't even know why.

Joey tried to express his thoughts as gently as possible.

"I've known you for a while now and understand some of what you've been through. He hurt you so much before; he's not the right match for you. You deserve someone who truly cherishes you."

Joey spoke earnestly, his eyes full of sincerity.

Mary still found it odd. Such things were usually said by close friends or family.

Strictly speaking, she and Joey weren't that close.

A thought crossed her mind, and she suddenly asked, "Mr. Cooper, you have a sister, right?"

Joey's heart skipped a beat. Did she figure it out? How could that be?

His face remained calm. "Yeah, she's about your age, loves to have fun and make a fuss."
