Chapter 800: Rogue Parents

Matthew let out a resigned chuckle. "Yeah, yeah, I know it was my call, not like you asked me to do it, so you don't owe me a thing."

Mary looked away, her eyes distant.

Silence settled between them again.

By the time they got to the hospital, night had already fallen.

Mary had arranged for Nora to have a private room to recover, but now, standing at the door was a middle-aged couple.

The woman was banging on the door, yelling her head off, while nurses and security tried to calm her down, but it wasn't working.

"Nora, you useless brat, get out here! Didn't you say you were going to tutor? Why are you in the hospital? Did you do something stupid and get smacked by someone's wife? Open the door, you shameless thing, and see if I don't beat you to death today!"

The woman's words were harsh, not caring that the person inside was her daughter.

"What the hell are you doing?"

Mary walked over and pulled the woman away, her face like a mask of ice.

"Who are you? I'm dealing with my daughter. What's it to you? Get lost!"

The woman was full of herself, thinking Mary was just another busybody, like the others who had been scared off by her yelling.

Mary said coldly, "I arranged for Nora to stay here. Her arm's broken, and she needs proper care. This is a public place, and if you keep causing a scene, I'll call the cops!"

The woman paused, her eyes darting, and asked, "Why are you being so nice to her? And how did her arm get broken? Did you hit her?"

Mary replied, "Yeah, I did, but she's almost recovered now."

The woman immediately shouted, "Almost recovered? It's a fracture! You owe her hospital bills, medical expenses, emotional distress, and lost wages. You need to pay 500,000 dollars. You hit my daughter, so you have to pay!"

She thrust her hand out at Mary, looking like a shameless opportunist.

Mary finally saw clearly that these parents were only interested in exploiting Nora.

They demanded 500,000 dollars without even asking about her condition or recovery.

Mary's eyes grew colder as she said, "I hit Nora, and she has the right to decide on compensation. We've already agreed that I'll cover her hospital expenses."

"What right does she have? I gave birth to her, so I decide the compensation! 500,000 dollars, not a penny less, or I'll sue you!"

The woman's attitude was brazen.

With 500,000 dollars, her son's college tuition would be covered!

Mary replied coldly, "Even if there is compensation, I won't give it to you. This is between me and her."

The woman, hearing this, began rolling up her sleeves, and the man beside her did the same, looking menacing.

"So you're not listening, huh? What do you mean it's between you and her? She's my daughter; her business is my business. Either you pay me now, or I'll sue you for assault!"
