Chapter 796 Beat You, Bad Woman

There was just a week left until the cooling-off period ended.

Mary was incredibly busy, leaving early and coming home late every day, with two interns hustling alongside her.

That afternoon, she got a phone call.

Mary, a bit puzzled, picked up the phone.

"Hey, is this Ms. Smith? I'm the caregiver for Victoria. Do you have a minute? The old lady wants to see you."

Mary furrowed her brow, thinking about Victoria's current condition, and asked, "Does Grandma remember me?"

The caregiver replied, "You'll find out when you get here."

With that, she hung up the phone.

Mary felt a bit suspicious but didn't dwell on it and shot a quick text to Matthew.

He didn't respond right away; probably caught up with work.

Mary didn't have much going on that afternoon. She had handed over most of her tasks to the two interns, who were eager to learn and work hard. It was their first time handling such a big project, and they had a lot to learn.

She headed straight to the nursing home.

A fresh layer of snow had just fallen, and the crunch underfoot was oddly satisfying.

Mary adjusted her scarf and quickly made her way inside the nursing home.

At Victoria's room, she knocked on the door.

In no time, the caregiver opened it.

"You're here, come on in."

The caregiver smiled at her.

Mary asked, "How's Grandma doing lately?"

The caregiver replied, "Same as always, sometimes clear-headed, sometimes confused."

Mary nodded, walked in, bypassed the small living room, and reached the bedroom door. There she saw Victoria leaning against the bed, holding a flower crown, her wrinkled face full of delight.

Mary paused, memories flooding back of when she had made that flower crown for her.

Back then, Victoria was also confused but loved the flower crown Mary had given her.

"Grandma."

Mary collected her thoughts and softly called out.

Victoria heard her voice, looked over, and then frowned. "You're such a bad woman!"

Mary froze.

Victoria pointed at her. "Why won't you let Matthew be with his wife? How could you be so awful? I'm going to hit you, hit you!"

With that, she actually lunged at Mary, trying to hit her.

Mary's eyes widened, and she quickly supported her to prevent her from falling off the bed!

At her age, with her frail health, a fall could be disastrous!

But as Mary got closer, it only made it easier for Victoria to hit her.

The slaps landed on her, weak but earnest, showing Victoria's genuine intent to scold her.

Mary frowned and said, "Did you call me here just to hit me?"

Victoria, puffing with anger, replied, "Yes, to hit you, you bad woman, for taking the place of my grandson's wife!"

Mary was momentarily at a loss, recalling the time she met Victoria at the construction site.

Victoria had grabbed her, insisting she was her granddaughter-in-law. Back then, Matthew had just returned to the Montagu family and wanted a divorce. Mary was unwilling, defiant, and even complained to Victoria.

Thinking about it now, her heart ached.

"I won't hold this position for long. Matthew and I are getting divorced soon!"

Mary quickly said as she saw Victoria about to strike again.
