Chapter 494 Don't Pick Up Men by the Roadside

Shirley gave her a sympathetic look.

"Mary, you really shouldn't have let that jerk into your life."

Mary just gave a helpless smile and said, "Lesson learned. No more picking up strays."

When Matthew called, they were chilling in the media room, watching a movie.

Mary glanced at her phone and told Shirley, "You keep watching, I'll take this."

Shirley nodded and waved her off.

Mary stepped out, closed the door behind her, and answered the call.

Matthew's deep voice came through, "What do you want?"

Mary asked, "Did you finish your shower?"

Matthew paused, "What shower?"

Mary explained what had happened earlier, sounding indifferent, "I didn't think you'd call back so fast."

After all, it was normal for intimate things to happen after a shower.

Matthew's tone got colder, "Didn't it bother you at all to hear another woman talk about me taking a shower?"

Mary replied, "A little bit."

Matthew immediately asked, "Really?"

Mary said, "Yeah, I just felt like I called at the wrong time. Next time, I'll check with Michael first to see if you're busy."

It would save everyone from awkward moments.

"Mary, you're something else!" Matthew's tone grew colder, with a hint of gritted teeth.

Mary was silent for a moment, then said, "Someone sent me a photo today of Gerald, all bruised and battered."

Matthew's tone was icy, "Do you want me to let him go?"

Mary sighed, "I do want you to let him go, but like you said, I have no proof of his innocence, so I have to give up. I called to ask if you know who sent me the photo and why."

Matthew said coldly, "Send me the number."

Mary sent the number and said, "Let me know if you find out anything."

"Why should I tell you?" Matthew sneered.

Mary said, "It's fine if you don't. That's it, I'm hanging up."

Her indifferent attitude really ticked Matthew off!

"Mary!" His voice was full of anger.

Mary paused slightly in the act of hanging up and asked, "Anything else?"

Matthew suppressed his anger and asked coldly, "Are you really this heartless?"

Mary looked out at the night, her expression cold, "I learned it from you."

With that, she hung up.

When he had just regained his memory, she had asked the same question. She didn't even want a divorce and wanted him to stay by her side.

But what was the result?

Endless hurt had shattered her heart. She could only stop believing in anything and had become hardened and guarded.

In the bar.

Matthew looked at the disconnected phone, his face twisted in rage.

Just then, Jessica walked over and asked, "Matthew, did you have a fight with Ms. Smith? Her temper is really something, not willing to back down. After all, everything you do is for her own good."

She had a look of understanding on her face.

Matthew looked at her, "Why did you answer my phone just now?"

Jessica was taken aback and said, "I was afraid she had something urgent, so I answered to ask her first."

Matthew said, "Then why did you say I was in the shower?"

Jessica was surprised, not expecting Mary to have said it directly!
