Chapter 289 Isn't It Good to Stay Obediently by My Side?

"Who the hell are you?" Peter yelled as a mob charged at him. His face turned pale, and he tried to run.

But as soon as he opened the door, he got kicked out! He crashed into the wall and hit the floor hard, spitting blood and writhing in pain.

Mary, already up, saw Sam's murderous look and felt a bit relieved. 'Someone's here to save me!' she thought, almost crying.

Sam stepped on Peter's back, pinning him down. "Ms. Smith, sorry I'm late. You okay?" he asked.

Mary shook her head slowly. "I'm fine," she said, getting out of bed and heading outside.

Suddenly, someone rushed up and hugged her tightly, almost strangling her. "Let go of me!" Mary patted his shoulder hard.

Matthew, feeling her warmth, thought, 'She's safe.' He finally relaxed, loosened his grip, and asked, "Are you hurt?"

Mary shook her head. "I'm fine," she said, her heart skipping a beat at his anxious, handsome face. 'He came to save me. He got my call,' she mused.

Matthew hugged her again. "Mary, isn't it good to stay obediently by my side?" he asked, his voice resonating through his chest.

She closed her eyes and said nothing.

Matthew let her go, his cold, murderous gaze fixed on Peter. He kicked him mercilessly, filling the room with Peter's screams.

Peter felt sharp pain in his back, knowing some ribs were broken. "Who the hell are you? Do you know who my dad is? He won't let you get away with this," he shouted angrily.

Matthew, exuding a chilling aura, looked down at him. "Your dad's already on his way," he said coldly.

Just then, footsteps echoed at the door. The deputy mayor of Lindenville, Rodolfo, stumbled in, his face pale with fear. "Mr. Montagu, please let him go. I'll teach this bastard a lesson. If you're unsatisfied, we can discuss it further," he pleaded.

Peter watched Rodolfo bow and apologize to Matthew, his heart sinking. 'This is Matthew, Lindenville's biggest investor! I'm screwed!' he thought, his ferocity replaced by despair.

"Let him go?" Matthew's cold gaze shifted to Rodolfo. "Your son kidnapped my wife and tried to abuse her. How do you expect me to let him go?"

Rodolfo was shocked. 'Mary is Matthew's wife? But they don't act like a couple! Now's not the time to dwell on that,' he thought, wiping cold sweat from his forehead. He walked over and slapped Peter across the face.
