Chapter 818 Wavering
Maple Grove Manor.
Mary stepped into the elevator, and her phone buzzed with a message from Shirley, inviting her to dinner that evening.
She was exhausted from the day's events and didn't feel like going out, nor did she want to cook at home. So, she asked where they would be eating.
Shirley quickly called her.
"How about barbecue? I feel like I've been working out so much lately, and I've lost weight. I need to treat myself," Shirley said.
Mary asked, puzzled, "What have you been doing to work out so much?"
Shirley chuckled and replied, "Bedroom exercises."
Mary was speechless.
She decided to drop the subject.
"Where are we eating? Send me the address," she said.
"Got it."
After hanging up, Mary pressed the button for the first floor, while Matthew, standing next to her, also received a call.
She pressed the button for the first floor, and he glanced at it, asking, "Got plans?"
Mary nodded, not saying much.
She felt there was no need to explain her plans to him.
Matthew's narrow eyes lingered on her, a faint, ambiguous smile playing on his lips.
Mary felt uneasy under his gaze and asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Matthew replied, "Because you're beautiful, and I want to kiss you."
Mary resisted the urge to roll her eyes and silently moved away from him.
Matthew chuckled softly but said nothing more.
The elevator was empty, and they quickly reached the first floor.
They exited one after the other, and Mary headed straight for the subway station, not wanting to drive.
Matthew went to get his car and soon drove past her, gradually disappearing from view.
Her expression was calm, but her emotions were hard to decipher.
The barbecue restaurant was warm and inviting, with the aroma of grilled meat filling the air as soon as she walked in.
"Over here!"
Shirley's voice called out, and Mary saw her waving from a table.
Mary walked over, taking off her scarf as she did.
Shirley looked at her, "What's up? You look exhausted today."
Mary's face was pale, and her eyes showed signs of fatigue.
"Busy day," Mary replied.
Shirley gave her a knowing look, "I thought you might be worried about Matthew, not eating or sleeping well."
Mary's tone was indifferent, "You're overthinking it."
"Really?" Shirley pressed on, "Mary, haven't you noticed that your attitude towards Matthew has softened a lot?"
Mary paused, then said, "We talked. He agreed to the divorce. We're getting along peacefully. I've thought about it, and there's no major grudge between us."
Shirley's smile grew even more knowing.
Mary sighed, "If you can't smile properly, I suggest you don't smile at all."
Shirley huffed, "I bet you're already having second thoughts, even if you do get divorced."
Mary didn't respond, focusing on scanning the menu with her phone.
Just then, there was a commotion at the entrance.
From her seat, Mary had a clear view of the door. She glanced up instinctively and saw a group of men walk in.
Matthew. Herman. Anthony.
Mary's finger paused momentarily on the menu, but she quickly composed herself and continued ordering.
"Would you like to sit here?" the server's voice soon rang out.
To her surprise, the server led them to the table right next to theirs!
