Chapter 770 You Will Like It in the Future
Matthew didn't reach for the box. His captivating eyes locked onto Mary as he said, "If you don't like it now, just hang onto it. Maybe one day you'll change your mind and want to wear it."
Mary was silent for a moment before saying, "Can't you tell? I don't want it."
Matthew replied, "But it's already yours. Whether you want it or not, it's yours to keep. If you really don't want it, toss it. Maybe some homeless person will find it and strike it rich."
Mary's fingers tightened slightly around the box. She thought about the expensive pink diamond inside, which must be worth at least eight million dollars.
Throwing away something so valuable was absolutely out of the question.
Seeing her hesitation, Matthew said, "Just keep it. You'll come around eventually."
What did he mean by that?
She didn't like it now, so how could she possibly like it in the future?
However, Mary didn't throw it away. Instead, she placed it on her lap.
Matthew glanced at her wrist and paused before saying, "If you wear it, you'll look stunning."
Mary didn't continue the conversation about the bracelet. Instead, she asked, "Why did you send someone in? We're about to get divorced. Making our relationship public now, what am I supposed to do after we divorce?"
Kurt's change in attitude was because he feared Matthew.
But after their divorce, without the status of being Matthew's wife, what would she do?
Not just Kurt, but anyone who looked down on her would seek revenge.
Thinking about that kind of life made her frown.
Matthew looked at her and said, "You've always wanted to leave Lindwood City. Are you still afraid of being retaliated against?"
Mary looked at him, "How do you know?"
Matthew chuckled, "You've made it pretty obvious that you want to leave. I'm not an idiot."
Mary pursed her lips slightly.
Thinking about it, he was right.
Once she completed Kurt's project, she would submit her resignation. During this time, she would also find a suitable designer to fill her position.
She really wouldn't be staying in Lindwood City for much longer.
"So, Mary, during this time, you should take full advantage of your status as Mrs. Montagu. You can't just leave this marriage empty-handed, right?" Matthew's deep, pleasant voice coaxed, "Would you ever make a losing deal?"
Of course not. Mary thought about it and realized he was right.
With his current status and position, hers would naturally rise as well.
Thinking carefully, Mary realized that in all the time she had been married to Matthew, she had never really used the privileges that came with being his wife.
The car's heater was on full blast, and a thin layer of condensation quickly formed on the windows.
The street outside was becoming harder to see.
They arrived back at Maple Grove Manor.
Mary held the box and said, "Thanks."
Matthew followed behind her, "You're welcome."
His long, narrow eyes held a hint of tender amusement as he looked at her.
Mary quickly looked away.
Back home, she made herself a simple bowl of noodles and found some documentaries to watch.
She liked watching documentaries to find inspiration.
After finishing her noodles, Mary went straight to her study.
When she came out again, the sky was already starting to lighten. She yawned and planned to get some sleep.
Just then, she heard a noise at the door.
Mary's groggy mind became a bit clearer. She walked to the entryway and stared at the door.
It sounded like someone was trying to enter the code, but they kept getting it wrong. The sound of the lock in the quiet night was particularly jarring.
