Chapter 361 Will Matthew Regret It?
Mary didn't waste any more time and took off running.
She spotted a convenience store up ahead with its lights still on. Perfect place to call the cops!
Just then, two girls came around the corner.
Mary's eyes lit up. She dashed over, linking arms with them, and said with a bright smile, "Hey, where have you guys been? I've been waiting forever!"
The two girls looked at her, puzzled. "Uh, do we know you?"
Mary gave them a quick wink and whispered, "Someone's following me. Can you help me out?"
Their faces turned serious.
One of them said, "Why were you taking so long? We had to do our makeup before leaving!"
The other girl chimed in, "Let's hit that food street. There's tons of good stuff to eat there."
Mary nodded eagerly. "Yeah, sounds awesome."
They started chatting like old friends as they walked.
When they turned the corner, Mary glanced back. The guy wasn't following them anymore.
She let out a huge sigh of relief. "Thank you so much."
She looked at the two girls.
One of them said, "No problem. Let's get out of here before he catches up."
The other girl nodded. "Yeah, it's not safe for you to be alone. Why didn't you call the cops?"
Mary gave a bitter smile. "My phone's dead."
The two girls linked arms with her again and started walking down a path.
But as they walked, Mary started feeling uneasy.
Why were they heading into such a deserted area?
Mary asked directly, "Where are we going?"
One of the girls said, "This way leads to the food street. There are more people there, so you'll be safer."
Her companion nodded. "Yeah, come on."
Mary's palms started to sweat.
She suddenly clutched her stomach and said, "I... I have a stomachache."
The two girls exchanged a glance and dragged her deeper down the path. "There's a restroom over there."
Mary's face turned pale.
These two had figured her out!
They were in cahoots with that man!
But by the time she realized it, it was too late. The man had somehow appeared ahead of them, staring at her with cold eyes.
Mary froze in place.
The two girls held her arms tightly to prevent her from escaping. Mary's voice was dry and shaky as she asked bitterly, "Who are you? Why are you kidnapping me?"
One of the girls said, "Kidnapping? What kidnapping?"
Mary's expression faltered. 'Not kidnapping? Then it must be human trafficking?'
She had seen such things on the news but never thought it would happen to her!
It seemed she wasn't getting away tonight.
She couldn't help but think, 'Would Matthew regret not coming to pick me up when he found out I was missing? Forget it, how could he possibly regret it?'
She had clearly told him someone was following her, but he still went to see Laura.
That meant Laura was more important to him.
She was nothing.
Even though she understood this clearly, Mary's tears still fell in big drops.
A sharp pain spread through her heart, making it hard to breathe.
The two girls saw her crying, but it wasn't the terrified crying of someone being trafficked. Instead, she cried as if she had experienced some deep sorrow.
