Chapter 294 None of Us Will Get Divorced
When Laura snapped back to reality, Matthew was already strutting away.
She stood there, solo at the doorway, feeling a chill run down her spine.
Inside the suite, Mary’s bags were already there.
She stared at the luggage, lips tight.
A noise came from behind. Matthew walked in, saw her eyeing the suitcase, and said, "The hotel you’re at is sketchy. From now on, you’re staying here."
Mary shot back, "You followed me."
Then it hit her—Sam had been her secret bodyguard.
Sam probably spilled everything to Matthew.
Matthew stepped closer, his deep, narrow eyes locked on her. "Mary, don’t you get my feelings yet?"
Mary’s breath hitched.
She sensed something was off between him and Laura.
She thought, 'Did they have a spat? Couples fight, it’s normal.'
Mary dropped her gaze, dodging his eyes, and said coolly, "Matthew, I’m beat."
She tried to head to her room, but Matthew grabbed her wrist.
He wouldn't let her leave because he had to say what he needed to today.
"I’ve told Laura. I’m not marrying her. You’re right; there are other ways to pay a debt. Marriage isn’t the only option. So, I’m not marrying her."
His grip tightened a bit, eyes locked on her, and he asked, "So, are we still getting a divorce?"
Mary’s heart skipped a beat.
Everything lately felt like a dream. She’d been on the fence, and now, hearing his words and feeling the emotions bubbling up, she felt a sudden urge.
But she held back.
She said, "Give me some time to think."
Matthew’s face scrunched up. "What’s there to think about? We’ve always been good together. Wouldn't it be nice to go back to how things were?"
He didn’t get what Mary needed to mull over.
They’d always been good together.
Mary looked up, meeting his eyes this time. She said, "You know that was before."
She thought, 'How could now be the same as before? What was Matthew like beforeand what is he like now? It can't be the same.'
Matthew’s face darkened. "So, you’re dead set on a divorce, huh?"
Mary frowned. "I said, give me some time to think. I’ll give you an answer once I’ve thought it through."
Matthew, however, let out a cold snort and let go of her hand.
He stared at her, his tone icy. "Think it over carefully. No matter what, we’re not getting a divorce!"
With that, he turned and stormed into the room.
Mary suddenly felt completely drained.
'Look at him, acting like this. How could we go back to how things were?' she thought.
After everything that had happened, Mary was truly exhausted. She went back to her room and crashed immediately.
In a daze, her phone rang.
With her eyes closed, she fumbled for her phone and squinted at the screen. It was a call from David.
She let out a breath and answered, "Hello?"
David’s worried voice came through, "Mary, how are you? Are you okay? I’m sorry, I really didn’t know Ms. Inome would pull something like that. I called you as soon as I woke up."
His tone was full of guilt and remorse.
