Chapter 73 Leaving the Montagu Mansion

Matthew initiated divorce, but he had been dragging it along.

Mary would have been curious about what he was thinking before, but not anymore.

If Matthew didn't grant her wish, then he shouldn't expect to be responsible for Laura either, unless he wanted Laura to be his mistress.

Mary thought that Matthew wouldn't do that.

'After all, Laura was still important to him.' Mary thought self-deprecatingly, her eyes feeling a bit sour. She quickly closed her eyes, preventing her emotions from collapsing.

After a while, the sound of the door closing rang out.

At that moment, Mary's heart felt like it had been hit hard by a sledge hammer, completely shattered, pain-numbing!

She gritted her teeth tightly, but in the end, she couldn't control the tears falling from her eyes.

In her mind, she replayed his tenderness over the past few days. In a daze, she felt like she had gone back to their sweet days.

Mary suddenly got up, opened the door, and walked out directly.

The house was large, but she felt incredibly oppressed. Matthew's presence was constant in every corner as if constantly reminding her that her beloved Matthew was seeking out other women.

As Mary left the mansion, a cold wind blew, causing her to shiver, but her eyes showed a newfound determination.

She wanted to leave and stay away from Matthew.

That way, she wouldn't feel sad anymore.

Matthew arrived at Laura's home.

Laura lived alone in an apartment, and when she opened the door, her face was very pale.

"Sorry, Matthew. I know you just got back. I shouldn't have disturbed you, but I'm really in pain," Laura said apologetically.

"Have you called an ambulance?" Matthew asked.

Laura was taken aback, then embarrassedly said, "I forgot."

Matthew took out his phone, called for an ambulance, and helped her sit on the sofa. "Can you hold out any longer?"

Looking at him, Laura said, "Having you by my side gives me the strength to keep going."

Matthew remained silent.

Laura's eyes flickered, and then she asked, "Since you are here to see me, does Ms. Smith know? Will she be upset?"

Matthew's thin lips formed a straight line. Instead of answering her question,  he calmly said, "Since you're not feeling well, rest more. The ambulance will be here soon."

A cold glint passed through Laura's eyes but quickly disappeared.

She grabbed his hand directly. "Matthew, I'm in so much pain."

Laura held Matthew's hand tightly, not wanting to let go.

Seeing her in pain and weakness, Matthew eventually didn't release his hand, allowing her to hold on.

The ambulance arrived soon.

Throughout the journey, Laura held Matthew's hand tightly all the way to the hospital.

After the examination, it was determined that Laura had acute appendicitis and needed surgery.

Before entering the operating room, with tears in her eyes, Laura looked at him. "Matthew, will you wait for me? I don't want to come out and be alone. It reminds me of two years ago when I had surgery alone, was pushed out alone, and went through recovery alone."

As she spoke, tears streamed down her face, looking pitiful.

Matthew's eyes showed a hint of complexity. He replied, "Okay."

Finally, Laura smiled, but she didn't forget to say, "You should still tell Ms. Smith. It's late, and if you haven't gone back yet, she will surely worry."

"It's fine," Matthew said lightly, glancing at the doctor, who then pushed the bed into the operating room.

He really didn't need to say anything to Mary.

They were getting divorced soon, and his affairs were no longer her concern.
