Chapter 165 Intimidating Delivery
Mary felt isolated at work. She got kicked off the Henry Group project because they didn't need her anymore.
When she found out, she wasn't shocked. She was used to handling things calmly.
Her colleagues noticed her isolation. Those who used to suck up to her started avoiding her. Oddly, she found some peace in that.
At noon, a delivery guy showed up, shouting, "Package for Mary Smith!"
Mary was puzzled. She hadn't ordered anything. What was this?
She took the small, light box and shook it. It made a slight noise. The sender was anonymous.
She hesitated to open it. Given her past experiences of being followed, nearly attacked, and receiving bloody photos, she wasn't taking any chances. Mary left the box on her desk and went to the cafeteria.
Before she could finish eating, a panicked colleague rushed over, pale-faced, saying, "Mary, hurry up. You need to go back."
Mary asked, "What happened?"
The colleague, looking terrified, stammered, "I can't explain, just go back. It's really scary!"
Frowning, Mary put down her utensils and hurried back to the office. She found a crowd around her desk, some looking pale, others disgusted.
A few of them were gossiping.
"What's this?"
"How could this be here?"
"What did Mary do to get something so gross?"
Mary's expression turned serious. She chimed in, "Make way, please."
The crowd parted, revealing the opened box on her desk. Some of them kept talking, "Mary, you're just in time. Look at this. Who sent it?"
"Yeah, it's disgusting. Did you piss someone off?"
"Mary, you should take a few days off. If this keeps happening, how can we work?"
Ignoring them, Mary walked over, looked inside, and turned pale. She rushed to the restroom to vomit.
Inside the box was a dismembered, skinned cat with its organs placed nearby.
It was gruesome!
After vomiting, Mary felt a bit better. She returned to the office and asked coldly, "Who opened the box?"
Everyone looked at each other but stayed silent.
Donna spoke up, "Why not just get rid of it? Are you trying to disrupt our work?"
Mary pulled out her phone, "If no one speaks up, I'll report it. Opening my stuff without permission is a privacy violation. You don't want to end up at the police station, right?"
The crowd looked confused and turned to Donna.
Donna's face tightened, "Mary, do you have to go this far? I just took a look. Why call the police? Did you bring this disgusting thing to gross us out? Why else wouldn't you let us see it?"
