Chapter 261 Go Ahead And Sue Me

"If their relationship was strained, can he have the chance?"

David looked down, trying to push away his mixed feelings.

He grabbed his phone and texted Mary, letting her know he was out of the hospital.

But after waiting forever, he still didn't get a reply. Disappointment flickered in his eyes.

At the Opulent Oasis Hotel, Matthew was swamped.

He came to Lindenville mainly for an inspection, and running into Mary was a bonus.

Still, he got something out of it.

He sat at the table, going through documents, looking all serious and composed.

In contrast, Mary, bored, was on the sofa playing games on her phone.

Matthew's left hand wasn't broken, just a minor injury. With proper care, it would heal fast.

David's issue would be sorted by then.

Then she could leave Lindenville.

When she got back, she thought, she could finally talk to Matthew about the divorce.

They'd been tangled up from the start, and it never ended well.

Better to end it sooner.

They could each find their own happiness.

Better than dragging each other down.

Mary felt at peace with her decision.

"Get me a glass of water."

Matthew's deep voice broke the silence.

Mary put down her phone and got up to get him some water.

Seeing his focused look, she couldn't help but say, "You're still recovering, you should rest more."

"Mm."

Matthew responded lightly, clearly not taking her advice seriously.

Mary didn't bother anymore.

She went back to the sofa and resumed her game.

Her phone buzzed. It was a message from Robert.

Robert: [Where did you go? Matthew left Lindwood City. I think he went to find you. Be careful.]

Mary: [Robert, I've already met him.]

Robert: [Did he give you trouble?]

Mary: [No, thanks for the heads-up.]

Knowing someone cared warmed her heart.

Robert: [Where are you? I'll come to you. I'm worried he'll bother you.]

Mary smiled.

She replied: [It's okay, don't worry.]

Robert: [Just be careful.]

Mary: [Will do.]

Her smile grew more genuine as she read the chat.

Matthew noticed her smile and found it annoying.

He said coldly, "Since you're free, come help me."

Mary retorted, "I already quit."

Matthew shot back, "But I haven't approved it. You're technically AWOL and owe the company."

Mary shrugged. "Oh, then sue me."

Matthew's breathing deepened.

She was so warm with others but so cold with him.

Matthew said, "You grew up in Lindenville. You know the local specialties. Go buy some for me."

Mary said, "No."

Matthew held back his temper, "Mary, is this how you take care of me?"

Mary put down her phone and looked at him. "Buying specialties isn't part of that."

Matthew said, "If I eat the specialties, I might recover faster."

Mary was silent.

She stood up. "Fine, then you better eat them all!"
