Chapter 161 Does Your Family Know How Despicable You Are?
Whenever Shirley thought of Herman, she couldn't help but think of that jerk, Matthew. If Herman had been Matthew's friend, he couldn't have been worse!
Shirley laughed bitterly, "Sue me, I don't care. I'm done!" She hung up and blocked Herman's number.
At the hospital, Herman stared at his phone, confused. Was he being blamed for something? What did Matthew's actions have to do with him?
Herman sighed and tried texting Shirley, only to find out she had blocked him. He thought Shirley was overreacting. He laughed coldly and made a call. "I have a job for you."
Shirley was staying at Maple Grove Manor with Mary, worried something might happen to her. In the afternoon, her boss, Alfonso Romero, called. "Shirley, did you hit Herman Adams?" Alfonso's voice shook.
Shirley's face darkened. "Mr. Romero, how did you know?"
Alfonso snapped, "Herman's people came to the company today, blaming you. Shirley, didn't you take leave to care for him? Where are you now? You have half an hour to get to Herman, or don't bother coming back!"
With that, he hung up angrily.
Shirley's face twisted in anger. Herman was really a piece of work! He actually went to her company!
"What's wrong?" Mary asked, her voice hoarse.
Shirley turned to see Mary leaning against the door frame, looking better after a long sleep.
"Just a harassing call," Shirley said, smiling. "How are you feeling?"
"A bit hungry," Mary replied.
Shirley smiled, "I'll order takeout. Just wait a bit."
Mary smiled and went to get some water.
After Shirley placed an order, Mary asked, "Was that Herman who called you?"
Shirley paused, "Did you hear it?"
Mary nodded. "He won't let this go. Shirley, my situation is already a mess. You can't afford more trouble. After dinner, you should go back."
Shirley hesitated, "I don't want to go back. Every time I see him, I think of Matthew. I'm afraid I might just stab him."
Mary chuckled, "I get it, but you can't do that. Trust me, okay?"
Seeing Mary's swollen eyes, Shirley finally agreed, "Alright, I'll go."
They exchanged a smile.
Shirley returned to the hospital in the evening when Herman was in a wheelchair, looking annoyed, with a caregiver adjusting his pants.
As Shirley walked in, he said, "You're back?"
Shirley snapped, "You're so despicable, you know?"
Herman ignored her sarcasm and said, "As long as it works, it's a good method, got it?"
Shirley took a deep breath to stop herself from strangling him.
Herman continued, "Take good care of me. If I'm in a good mood, I might put in a few good words for your friend with Matthew. Otherwise..."
