Chapter 112 I'll Take Good Care of My Wife
Matthew had no idea why Victoria suddenly brought this up, but he just had to grin and bear it. "Got it, Grandma. I'll treat my wife right."
Victoria huffed, "That's more like it."
She let go of Matthew's ear, which was now bright red from the twist.
Mary was hiding behind a bush, watching. At first, she felt happy, but her mood quickly soured.
After all, Victoria was Matthew's grandmother. Even if she scolded him, she wouldn't really hurt him.
It was pointless.
Mary was about to leave when a soft voice called out, "Grandma."
Mary's body tensed as she saw Laura walking in.
Laura wore a long beige skirt that reached her ankles, but her prosthetic leg was still noticeable. Her long hair flowed over her shoulders, and her light makeup gave her an elegant look.
Victoria eyed her, "Who are you?"
Laura opened the dessert box she was holding and handed it to Victoria, "Grandma, it's me, Laura."
Victoria's eyes lit up at the sight of the dessert, "Oh, it's you." She grabbed a piece and started eating.
Laura smiled, "Grandma, you still love this dessert. I used to make it for you all the time."
Victoria grinned while chewing, "Really? Are your desserts that good? Will you keep making them for me?"
Laura nodded. "If you like them, I'll make more for you."
"I love them, I really do," Victoria said happily.
Laura's smile grew. She glanced at Matthew, "What a surprise, I didn't expect to see you here."
Matthew turned to her, "Do you visit often?"
Laura replied, "Yeah, Grandma must get lonely here. Since you're busy, I thought I'd visit her. Most of the time, she's asleep; how lucky I am today, she's awake."
Matthew gave a noncommittal grunt and turned his attention back to Victoria, whose mouth was covered with crumbs.
Laura took out a tissue and gently wiped the crumbs away. "Grandma, do you remember two years ago when you asked Matthew and me for a great-grandchild?"
Victoria seemed to think for a moment, then shook her head, "I don't remember. You can't have my great-grandchild. Matthew already has a wife."
Laura's smile wavered, "Grandma, I..."
"Laura." Matthew cut her off, "Grandma's memory isn't great now. Please, don't push it."
Laura looked frustrated but held back. "I was too forward."
Victoria suddenly grabbed her hand, "Your desserts are delicious, and I like you too."
Laura smiled again, "How about I spend more time with you then?"
"Great." Victoria clapped happily.
As Matthew pushed the wheelchair and Laura walked beside them, they strolled through the garden, creating a peaceful scene.
In the bushes, Mary stood there, expressionless. She had brought this on herself, so she deserved it.
But she couldn't help feeling wronged for leaving after being humiliated by Matthew.
Mary's eyes flickered, and she stepped out, "Grandma."
At her voice, all three turned to her.
