Chapter 429 Have You Been Married
Mary was caught off guard, staring at Sean with a puzzled look.
She wanted to say something, but with a grape in her mouth, she had to finish chewing first.
Just then, a tall, lean figure walked in.
Mary squinted and saw it was Matthew.
She instinctively sat up straight, quickly chewing and swallowing the grape. What was he doing here?
Then it hit her—Herman was here, so it made sense Matthew would show up too.
Matthew had this cold vibe, his narrow eyes locked on Mary's face as he plopped down on the sofa. "Is it sweet?"
Mary was taken aback. She'd been drinking, so her head was a bit fuzzy. She nodded without thinking. "Yeah."
Matthew's face darkened, but a cold smile tugged at his lips. "Fine, pick one for me too."
He glanced at Sean.
Sean hesitated, then put the whole plate of grapes in front of Matthew. "They're all good."
Sean felt the tension. Matthew's stare was intense, but he didn't do anything, leaving Sean confused.
Mary finally swallowed the grape and asked, "Why are you here?"
Matthew picked up a grape, looking at it indifferently, and shot back, "Can't I be here?"
Mary was momentarily speechless.
She licked her juice-stained lips and said, "I'll go find Shirley. Why isn't she back yet?"
With that, she got up and headed for the door.
As she passed Matthew, he grabbed her arm and pulled her onto his lap.
Matthew brought a grape to her lips. "Try this one; is it sweet?"
Mary's body grew tense, yet she refrained from struggling. Had she done otherwise, it would have been embarrassing with others present.
She refused, "I don't want to eat anymore."
Matthew's narrow eyes looked at her coldly. "You don't want grapes, then what do you want?"
Mary sensed a chill in his tone.
At this moment, Sean chimed in, "Sir, it's better not to force Ms. Smith. A couple needs understanding and communication. If you're always so forceful, Ms. Smith won't feel good about it."
How dare Sean lecture Matthew?
Matthew, holding Mary by the waist, looked at Sean coolly. "You seem to know a lot. Have you been married?"
Sean was at a loss for words.
Mary asked Matthew, "Did Mr. Adams tell you I was here?"
Matthew still held the grape, his gaze on her face. "Shouldn't I be here? Did I interrupt something?"
Mary pursed her lips and explained, "He saved me last night."
Matthew mocked, "So what? Are you going to sleep with him out of gratitude?"
Mary's face was still a bit red. Hearing Matthew's words, she frowned immediately. "Matthew, what nonsense are you talking about? We were just having a normal conversation!"
Matthew sneered, "Mary, do you think I'm stupid? Would he feed you grapes in a normal conversation? If I had come a bit later, would you have booked a hotel room?"
Mary's eyes filled with anger, and she struggled. "If you don't trust me, why are you here? Why not just stay in your bubble of doubts?"
Matthew didn't let her get up, shoving the grape into her mouth. "Eat, and taste if it's sweeter from him or from me!"
