Chapter 809 So You Don't Want Me Anymore

Mary was tweaking the blueprints while munching on some snacks, and before she knew it, the whole afternoon had slipped away.

As the sky outside turned dark and the office lights flickered on, she suddenly realized how long she'd been there.

Logging out of her account, she shut down her computer and stood up, glancing over at Matthew.

He was still buried in his documents, his long, elegant fingers gripping a pen as he flipped through the pages with a focused, stern look.

Every so often, he'd jot down a note.

Mary didn't want to disturb him. After sitting all afternoon, she stretched her arms and quietly walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the city lights outside.

The Montagu Group's location was top-notch, offering a sweeping view of the city from its high floors.

The scene was a dazzling array of lights, like a river of stars, breathtakingly beautiful.

And now, snowflakes were gently falling, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.

Mary's face relaxed, her mood light and content.

Matthew looked up, his eyes growing darker and more profound as he watched her slender yet graceful silhouette.

Her proportions were perfect, with a small, well-balanced frame, straight shoulders and back, a naturally curving waist, and long legs ending in a pair of dainty leather shoes, exuding elegance and grace.

Unable to resist, Matthew put down his pen and walked over to embrace her.

Mary stiffened.

Matthew crossed his arms in front of her, pulling her into his embrace, resting his chin on her shoulder, his voice low, "Mary, I just wanted to hold you."

He spoke his mind directly, making his feelings clear, which was better than the previous misunderstandings and missteps.

He didn't even want to think about the past anymore.

Every time he did, Matthew felt like punching himself.

Mary's tense body gradually relaxed, and she said calmly, "Matthew, this isn't good. The more you want, the more you might end up feeling unsatisfied and unwilling."

She was also speaking to herself.

Just when she was about to achieve what she'd always wanted, she found herself craving those fleeting moments of warmth.

What did her past resolve mean then?

What about the grievances she had endured?

Hearing her words, Matthew's breath hitched slightly, and he suddenly asked, "Mary, you're wavering too, aren't you?"

Mary's long lashes fluttered slightly.

Matthew continued, "Deep down, you still care about me, right? It's just that I was such a jerk before, and I let you down completely, so you decided to leave me."

Mary closed her eyes briefly and said, "Talking about this now doesn't mean anything."

Matthew let out a bitter laugh, "Why was I so stupid? Everything was fine, why did I bring up divorce?"

What's the point of dwelling on the past now?

Mary didn't want to continue this conversation, so she said, "I'm tired, I want to go home and rest."

Matthew nodded, "I'll take you."

She wanted to refuse, but he had already turned to grab her coat and handed it to her, then put on his own.

Leaving her with no room to decline.

Mary took the coat, thought for a moment, and decided not to refuse.

She just hoped the next few days would pass peacefully, leading to a smooth divorce.
