Chapter 760 I Love You
Hearing this, Matthew closed his laptop and looked at Mary with a hint of a smile in his eyes.
"So, you need my help?"
Mary nodded. "Yeah, your family's way more complicated than mine."
Matthew suddenly felt a bit sad.
After a pause, he said, "If it were me, I'd first find out who started the fire. If it were Rebecca, I'd show the evidence and the paternity test to the Cooper family. If it were the Cooper family, I'd find a way to take them down."
Mary was speechless.
Her plan was simply to cut ties with the Cooper family if they were responsible, pretending she knew nothing about it.
Matthew was indeed ruthless.
As if he knew what Mary was thinking, he said, "Mary, some people already know about you. You might want to act like you don't know anything, but have you considered that they might see you as a threat? To prevent any risks, they might try to eliminate you. After all, if you're dead, no one can threaten them."
Mary nodded. "You're right."
Matthew took her hand. "Mary, I really like this feeling."
Mary frowned and tried to pull her hand away.
But Matthew held on tighter, making it impossible for her to break free. She frowned at him. "Let go of me!"
"I don't want to." He gazed at her. "I want to hold on to you forever."
Mary felt powerless.
She looked at Matthew. "Matthew, after everything we've been through, have you figured out what you really feel for me? If it's just obsessive possessiveness, then..."
"I love you."
Before Mary could finish, Matthew interrupted her.
His long, narrow eyes were filled with sincerity and tenderness as he looked deeply into her eyes. "Mary, in the past, I was too extreme. I even thought about erasing you from my life because you witnessed my darkest year, my lowest point. I thought if I got rid of you, no one would know how pathetic I once was. But thankfully, that thought only lasted a moment before I crushed it."
"Without you, I wouldn't be who I am today. I've come to understand my own heart, Mary. I love you."
Mary's heart felt like it was being gripped tightly, and she suddenly felt a mix of bitterness and the urge to cry.
If only Matthew had said these words to her sooner.
"But Matthew, I don't love you anymore."
She heard her voice, choked with emotion.
Matthew kissed her fingers and said, "It's okay. I'll become the Matthew you once loved. I'll make you fall in love with me again."
Mary turned her gaze away.
Her hand was still in his, but she didn't have the energy to care.
Matthew's words hit her heart like a heavy hammer, causing cracks in the walls she had built around it.
But could she handle the consequences?
Could she endure being hurt again?
Mary sniffled and said, "Are you trying to win me back?"
"You could say that," Matthew replied.
Mary looked at him again. "Alright, let's get the divorce first. Then you can pursue me, like any other couple. If I truly fall for you again, we can remarry."
Hearing this, Matthew didn't speak for a moment. He gazed deeply at her.
Mary's eyes were clear and pure, without any trace of deceit. She was serious.
Matthew agreed, "Okay."
