Chapter 667 Do You Care?
Matthew had been staying here for a week.
Apart from the first night when he caused some trouble by deliberately entering Mary's bathroom, nothing else had happened.
Everyone was getting along peacefully.
Shirley really did manage to ignore Matthew, treating him just like any other tenant.
Matthew spent his days either working out or reading, living a leisurely life as if he were retired.
Even though the Montagu Group was in the process of merging with the DK Group, he didn't seem the least bit anxious.
It was as if the DK Group wasn't something he had put a lot of effort into.
Mary watched the news, feeling conflicted.
She had been working at the DK Group since she graduated from college and had deep feelings for the company.
If it weren't for what happened later, she wouldn't have left so easily.
She was so affected by the news, so why was Matthew so indifferent?
Unable to hold back, she knocked on his door.
"Come in."
A deep, pleasant voice responded.
Mary hesitated for a moment before pushing the door open and walking in.
She was moving much more smoothly now.
Matthew was sitting in a chair, reading a book. When he saw her come in, he raised an eyebrow slightly.
"This is rare." He spoke, his voice low and his gaze deep as he looked at her.
Mary stood at the door and asked, "Matthew, what exactly are you doing?"
Matthew's handsome eyebrows arched slightly. "What do you mean?"
Mary said, "The DK Group is about to merge with the Montagu Group. Once the merger is complete, there will be no more DK Group. Are you just going to stand by and do nothing?"
Matthew smirked, "If I don't watch it happen, should I close my eyes? That's an option too."
Mary fell silent.
She pressed her lips together, suddenly feeling that her question was unnecessary.
She turned to leave.
"Mary."
Behind her, Matthew's deep, pleasant voice called out.
Mary paused. "What is it?"
Matthew asked, "Do you care about the DK Group?"
Mary's secret feelings were exposed, and she frowned. "I was just asking. If you, the boss, don't care, why should I, a former employee, care?"
With that, she left.
She regretted and shouldn't have come to ask. They should have just continued to coexist peacefully until the court date.
They would remain unconnected until everything was over.
Matthew kept his eyes on the door, a flicker of emotion passing through his gaze. He smiled slightly and then returned to his book.
In the afternoon, Mary received a call from Linda.
Linda got straight to the point. "Mary, it's been a while. Have you thought about it?"
Mary was sitting on the balcony, looking at the overcast sky outside. For some reason, a sense of unease crept into her heart.
"Mrs. Montagu, I can't do this."
Linda sighed softly. "I figured as much. You're so kind, but Matthew hurt you so badly. It's really unfair to you."
Her tone was full of pity and sympathy, as if she truly felt sorry for Mary's situation.
Mary's eyes remained cold. "Mrs. Montagu, is there anything else?"
Linda spoke gently. "How is your recovery going?"
Mary replied, "Almost fully recovered."
Linda said, "That's good to hear. I won't disturb your rest any longer. Goodbye."
After hanging up, Mary leaned back and exhaled a deep breath.
"Why didn't you accept her proposal?"
At that moment, Matthew's voice came from behind her, his tone devoid of any emotion.
