Chapter 351 Working as a Driver at the Montagu Manor
Mark was totally floored. "I... I don't know, but Mary, Gerald can't go to jail. He's just a kid, prison would wreck his life!"
Mary asked, "Mark, where's Gerald working these days?"
Mark replied, "Some fancy place called Montagu Manor. It's massive and screams money, you can tell just by looking at it."
Mary's eyebrows shot up at that.
She let out a slow breath and said, "I'll go check it out."
Mark jumped up. "I'm coming with you, I need to see Gerald too."
But Mary shook her head. "Mark, you stay here and wait for my call. If I find Gerald, I'll let you know. They might not even let me in, and then we'd both be wasting our time."
Mark mumbled, looking lost.
Mary gave him a soft smile. "Mark, don't worry, I'll find a way to help Gerald."
She owed Mark's family big time for taking care of her during high school. She had to pay them back.
Mark nodded. "Alright, I'll listen to you, but be careful, okay?"
"Got it," Mary said, heading out of the small motel and straight to Montagu Manor.
This was her second solo trip there.
The first time was when Matthew had just gotten his memory back, and Victoria had invited her for dinner. She'd seen Matthew being all sweet with Laura.
Thinking about it made Mary's heart ache.
Back then, she was drowning in sorrow.
Just days before, Matthew had been so loving and kind to her. How could he change so fast?
Mary's face went blank, lost in thoughts of the old Matthew.
She missed him. A lot.
But the Matthew with his memory back was erasing the sweet, loving Matthew from the past year.
Mary closed her eyes, pushing down the pain.
The taxi pulled up to Montagu Manor. Mary paid the fare and got out, heading straight to the doorbell.
After a bit, a servant came out. "Mrs. Montagu, what brings you here?"
Mary said, "I'm here to see someone."
The servant opened the door and let her in, asking, "Who are you looking for?"
Mary said, "A guy named Gerald Wright, he's a driver here. Where's he at?"
The servant's face changed and she quickly said, "Mrs. Mary Montagu, I need to check with Mrs. Linda Montagu. Please wait a moment."
She hurried off into the villa.
Mary stopped and didn't go inside.
She wasn't a fan of this place.
Linda's mixed signals and Richard's clear dislike were enough to keep her away.
Meanwhile, in the study upstairs...
Richard tossed a stack of photos in front of Matthew, his voice icy. "This driver has some nerve, stealing Samuel's stuff and selling it! Matthew, deal with him. I want him to regret ever being born!"
Matthew's long, elegant fingers picked up the photos and started flipping through them. They clearly showed Gerald sneaking into Samuel's room, stealing, and selling the items.
His eyes darkened.
Richard said, "Some of those things are from you. Samuel treasured them; he always loved you!"
