Chapter 360 Someone is Following
Just then, she heard footsteps behind her, not too close but not too far, making her jittery for no good reason.
There were shops around, and surveillance cameras, but she still felt on edge.
The last two run-ins had her on high alert. She picked up the pace, and the footsteps behind her did the same.
Mary didn't dare to look back!
She spotted a convenience store and bolted straight for it!
It wasn't until she got inside and glanced back that she saw a guy was indeed tailing her, but he didn't follow her in.
Mary was freaking out!
She didn't dare to leave and plopped down by the window, pulling out her phone to make a call.
But who should she call?
Matthew had looked so pissed earlier. It was clear he didn't want to see her again. If she called him, would he even pick up?
But besides Matthew, who else could she call?
For the first time, Mary felt totally helpless.
In such a big city, it seemed she didn't have anyone to turn to for help.
She took a deep breath and looked up to see the guy still hanging around outside!
He seemed to be waiting for her to leave!
Mary's palms were sweaty!
She didn't care about anything else and dialed Matthew's number.
The busy tone kept coming.
Mary glanced outside from time to time. Seeing the guy's silhouette, she quickly looked away in fear.
"Hello?"
Thank God, the call connected.
Mary said, "Matthew, where are you? Can you come pick me up? Someone's following me!"
Matthew said, "Send me your location."
"Okay." Mary suddenly felt a wave of relief.
If he was coming, then she would be fine!
Mary sent her location and anxiously waited.
But as time ticked by, an hour flew by in no time. Matthew still hadn't shown up, even though they weren't that far apart.
"Miss, we're closing," the convenience store owner came over and said to her.
This convenience store wasn't open 24 hours.
Mary said, "Okay, I'll make a call and then leave."
She dialed Matthew's number again.
It was still the busy tone, and then his voice came. "What is it?"
Mary's heart sank. "Matthew, weren't you coming to pick me up?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end, and then a familiar voice sounded. "Matthew, I knew you cared about me."
Mary's breath hitched!
That was Laura's voice!
Matthew said, "I'm busy. I sent someone to pick you up."
After saying that, he hung up!
Mary stared blankly at her phone, her heart once again filled with tiny stabs of pain! 'He actually went to find Laura! Isn't he supposed to be done with her? Why is he with her again?' she mulled.
Even though she had clearly told him someone was following her.
But he still went to find Laura.
Mary gave a self-mocking smile and got up to leave the convenience store.
The rolling shutter door behind her slowly closed. The guy in the distance looked over. She couldn't see his face clearly, but she could feel the malicious gaze.At that moment, Mary couldn't pinpoint her feelings—anger, sadness, or resentment.
But she had to run!
She absolutely couldn't stay here!
The guy was already walking towards her, his eyes locked on her like she was his prey!
Mary was about to call the cops but found her phone was dead!
Her face instantly turned pale!
