Chapter 75 Let Go of him
Mary's hand trembled as she called a number from her contacts.
It was only then that she realized it was Matthew's number!
Mary wanted to hang up, but her hand paused.
It felt like two voices were arguing within her.
One urged her to quickly hang up and call the police, while the other told her not to hang up but to tell Matthew and seek his help.
They had lived together for a year, and there were definitely feelings involved. That voice kept tempting Mary to gamble on whether she or Laura was more important to Matthew.
The busy tone sounded from the other end of the phone.
Mary immediately canceled the button for the 18th floor and pressed the 1st floor.
She couldn't stay in this building anymore!
Meanwhile, Laura's surgery had just finished at the hospital, and upon seeing Matthew, her face lit up with a smile.
"Matthew, it's great to have you here with me. I feel less scared," Laura said weakly.
Matthew had found a caregiver who had already arrived. Hearing her, he said, "The caregiver will take care of you from now on. If you need, I can also contact your family."
"No," Laura immediately refused. "Don't contact them. You know, they don't like me. Two years ago, when I had that incident, they didn't even come to see me. I'm not important to them."
She smiled bitterly but then looked at him. "Luckily, I have you by my side."
Matthew pursed his lips and remained silent.
Just then, his phone rang, and upon checking, he saw that it was a call from Mary.
Laura also noticed and said, "Matthew, I feel like I can't lie down all the time."
Matthew's attention shifted to her. "Yes, the doctor said that you need to pass gas before you can rest."
Laura's face immediately blushed as she reached out to him, accidentally touching his phone.
The phone slipped from his hand, fell to the floor, and went black.
Matthew instinctively bent down to pick up the phone. When he couldn't turn it back on, his brows furrowed tightly.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. Is your phone broken? Let me buy you a new one," Laura expressed regret on her face.
While Laura felt apologetic, Matthew wondered why Mary was calling him.
He turned to the caregiver. "Can I borrow your phone?"
"Sure." The nurse handed him the phone.
Matthew opened the dial pad. Although he thought he didn't know Mary's number, the next moment, a string of digits appeared in his mind. He dialed the number directly.
However, after dialing, an electronic female voice announced that the number was currently busy.
He wondered, 'What's going on? Was Mary still calling my phone?'
"Matthew?"
Laura looked at him, interrupting his thoughts.
Matthew said, "Let the caregiver assist you. I have to go."
With that, he didn't even look at Laura's expression and left the ward directly.
"Matthew!"
Laura got up, causing pain as she tugged at her wound, gasping in cold air.
As Matthew left, Laura's expression instantly turned ugly.
Was he going back for Mary?
Laura clenched the bedsheet tightly, her gaze turning colder!
The moment the call was disconnected, the inner voice that had been shouting in Mary's heart disappeared instantly.
Her face was filled with mockery. She realized it was her wishful thinking!
She had foolishly gambled on who was more important between herself and Laura!
She should have let go of him!
