Chapter 44 Apologize to Her
The crowd was taken aback and turned to see Mary walking in. Her face looked a bit unpleasant, but her eyes were cold. She glanced at everyone present, "It's one thing to badmouth me behind my back when I can't hear it, but if I catch you, don't you owe me an apology, hmm?"
She deliberately glanced at the few who had just insulted her.
The individuals' expressions started to shift, and a male colleague stood up, saying, "Why should we apologize to you? The project data under your responsibility leaked, and during that time, no one touched your desk. We have reason to suspect it was you!"
Mary looked at him coldly. "So, as you said, it's just a suspicion. You don't have concrete evidence, do you?"
The man was at a loss for words, his expression becoming awkward.
Mary gazed at them. "No apologies? You're quite shameless."
Provoked by her words, the group erupted.
"Mary, you're the one at fault. Why should we apologize to you?"
"Exactly, we didn't do anything wrong!"
"If you say you didn't do it, then what is your solution?"
Mary slapped the file folder in her hand onto the table. "How about I regain the collaboration with the Henry Group? Is that enough?"
The crowd froze at her words.
"She got the collaboration back?"
"She really got it back? How did she do it?"
The previously vocal individuals were stunned, and the male colleague picked up the contract, flipping it open to confirm it was a collaboration contract with the Henry Group. His face flushed red.
"Sorry, I was too hasty earlier."
Despite the embarrassment, he apologized to Mary.
Mary smiled, "It's okay, I don't hold grudges. Let's move on from this."
The others also apologized to Mary, and she responded in kind.
At that moment, Kevin returned, his face beaming. "Mary, I heard about it. You're amazing. As you manage to regain the collaboration with the Henry Group, our performance is surely secure this time!"
Mary smiled faintly, "This matter is resolved, but there's still another left."
Kevin was puzzled. "What's that?"
Mary's smile disappeared, "The leaker, of course. We can't leave this rat be."
Kevin nodded, "You're right, but we have no clue."
Mary said, "I do."
The group immediately turned their attention to her, waiting for her next move.
Mary walked to her workstation, where a row of cute cat figurines sat in front of her computer, usually unnoticed.
She picked up an orange cat, took out a data cable, and connected it directly to the computer.
She said calmly, "I'm a cautious person; whether at home or work, even in a small corner, I install surveillance. It's for unexpected situations, and it turns out to come in handy."
It was a surveillance footage. Mary scrolled through it, pausing at a specific moment on the third day she was in the hospital when a person showed up at her workstation.
In the dimly lit scene, clearly after work hours, the person sat down, looked around for a moment, then proceeded to turn on her computer. While waiting for it to boot up, the person picked up her cat figurine and played with it, inadvertently revealing a face in the footage.
