Chapter 156 He Will Never Forgive You
Richard coughed violently after speaking.
Linda rubbed his back, trying to calm him down. "Honey, don't get so worked up. We don't have all the facts yet. Let's wait a bit longer."
Mary stared at Matthew lying on the hospital bed, but the bodyguard had already come in and dragged her out.
The door to the ward slammed shut in her face.
"Mary!" Shirley had just walked Herman back and saw Mary being pushed out; her heart broke.
"I'm fine," Mary said.
Shirley hugged her tight. "I'll stay here with you."
Mary shook her head. "No, you should go back. Herman's a handful. If he gets upset, you'll be the one in trouble."
Shirley bit her lip. "It's okay, he's not a kid. He won't die without me!"
Mary gave a weak smile. "Just listen to me, okay?"
Shirley's eyes welled up. "Mary, I want to be with you."
Mary sighed. "Matthew hasn't woken up yet. Anything we do now is pointless. I won't let anything happen to me. You should go back. If something really happens, I'll call you."
Seeing Mary's resolve, Shirley didn't push further. "Promise you'll call me if anything happens."
"Okay." As Shirley left, Mary's face remained tense.
Her eyes locked on the ward door, filled with worry and anxiety. She didn't even notice her hands trembling.
Suddenly, a rush of footsteps echoed down the hall.
"Move!" Before she could react, someone shoved her aside, making her hit the wall.
Cindy glared at Mary with pure hatred. "It was you, you witch! You poisoned Matthew because he wouldn't divorce you!"
Laura stepped in. "Cindy, stop it. Let's check on Matthew first."
Laura's face was pale, but her eyes were anxious.
Cindy shot Mary a cold look. "When Matthew wakes up, he'll deal with you himself!"
With that, she and Laura went into the ward.
Mary leaned against the wall, her face drained of color.
She suddenly remembered the look in Matthew's eyes before he passed out.
That cold, murderous look which had accused her of poisoning him!
Mary's heart ached.
How could he look at her like that?
How could she possibly poison him?
Mary felt a chill run through her like she was standing in an ice cave. She leaned against the wall, afraid she would collapse if she didn't.
The night passed on, and Matthew still hadn't woken up.
No one came out, and the food test results were still pending.
It was a long night for everyone.
When Herman showed up again, he was shocked to see Mary looking ghostly pale.
"You've been standing here all night?"
Mary didn't respond, and her red-rimmed eyes fixed on the ward door.
Herman frowned at her, then suddenly said, "I did suspect you of poisoning him earlier."
Mary paused, looking at him. "What about now?"
Herman said, "I still have my doubts, but I'm starting to waver."
Mary took a deep breath, feeling a sharp pain in her chest. "I didn't do it." Her voice was dry.
Herman said, "Can you prove it? Mary, if you can't find evidence to clear your name, Matthew will never forgive you."
