Chapter 734 I Don't Want You to Hate Me

Mary froze for a moment, realizing Matthew might be right.

But that didn't justify Matthew's actions.

She tried to calm herself, avoiding his intense gaze. "I was sick before, but I get better."

Matthew stared deeply into her eyes. "Will you still accept me?"

"No." Mary didn't hesitate.

Matthew's breath hitched, his eyes darkening like an impenetrable night.

"Mary, do you know? Sometimes, I don't care what you think or feel. I just want to force you to stay by my side."

His deep, magnetic voice broke the silence.

"You..."

Mary's eyes flashed with anger, but she felt powerless.

If Matthew did that, there was nothing she could do. Even resisting would be futile.

"But I'm afraid you'll hate me."

Matthew caressed her face and quickly kissed her lips before she could react.

Mary's eyelashes fluttered, and Matthew released her, his tall figure disappearing into the darkness as he walked towards the elevator.

As the elevator doors closed, Mary felt her limbs go weak.

She hurried into her room, collapsing onto the couch, feeling exhausted and hopeless about tomorrow's court hearing.

If Matthew didn't show up, what would that mean for their relationship?

Mary ran her fingers through her hair in frustration. Just then, her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen. It was David.

Why would David call her at this hour?

Mary answered the call.

David's serious voice came through. "Mary, Ms. Inome is back!"

Mary stood up abruptly. "When did this happen? Is she at the orphanage now?"

David replied, "Yes, I just saw her outside. She's not in good shape and has fainted. I knew you were looking for her, so I called you right away."

Mary's heart pounded. Barbara had disappeared and now suddenly reappeared in poor condition. What had happened?

Barbara surely knew about her past.

"Something's wrong," David suddenly said. "A lot of people just showed up outside. I'm going to check it out."

Mary's heart raced, and she didn't dare hang up.

After about ten minutes, David's voice came back. "Mary, are you still there?"

Mary replied, "I'm here. What's going on?"

David said, "A group of bodyguards showed up looking for someone. I managed to hold them off, but I have a feeling they're after Ms. Inome. What should we do?"

What should they do?

Barbara was clearly in trouble, or she wouldn't have fled.

If those people found her, they wouldn't let her go.

Her past would remain a secret.

Mary needed to see Barbara now, to learn about her past from her.

Mary replied, "I'm heading to Lindenville now. Hide Barbara well and don't let anyone find her!"
