Chapter 53 A Surprise

"Mr. Montagu went on a business trip to Emerald Isle City." Michael replied.

Mary said, "Send me his schedule."

"Of course." Michael agreed and sent Matthew's work schedule to Mary shortly after.

Mary read the message, booked a ticket online without any hesitation, and headed straight to the airport.

It only took three hours to fly from Lindwood City to Emerald Isle City.

When she found Matthew, they would go directly to file the divorce, and she could return without delay.

The two cities are close and have similar climates. After getting off the plane, Mary took a cab directly to the hotel where Matthew was staying. After checking in, she sat in the lobby on the first floor, waiting for Matthew.

Matthew didn't answer her calls.

Mary thought, 'Did he think he could avoid the divorce by going on a business trip? No way!'

However, Mary waited for a long time, and it was already getting dark outside when Matthew's tall and slender figure finally walked in from the entrance.

Mary was almost falling asleep when she suddenly saw him. She blinked in disbelief, then stood up and walked towards him.

Before he could approach, she called his name. "Matthew."

Matthew paused, then looked over. When his gaze landed on her, his eyes darkened slightly. She actually came here.

"Mr. Montagu, who is this lady?" the man beside him, Elbert Perry, asked in confusion.

Matthew's handsome and sharp face showed a hint of helplessness but indulgence as he directly replied, "My wife."

Upon hearing this, Elbert chuckled, "It seems Mrs. Montagu has come to surprise you. Since you're here, I'll leave you two. See you guys at the dinner later."

Matthew nodded lightly, "Okay, see you later."

Mary stood behind Matthew, overhearing their conversation. Her brows furrowed, and her face tightened with tension.

When Matthew withdrew his gaze and turned to her, he asked, "Why are you here?"

Mary's face was expressionless. "Let's go. The courthouse is still open. Let's file the divorce now. Surprise!"

The gentle smile on Matthew's face disappeared bit by bit as he stared at her for a while before speaking, "Did you hear what I just told Mr. Perry?"

Mary nodded, "I did. What does that have to do with me?"

He was the one who introduced Mary that way.

Did he get her consent?

What did he mean by this now?

Matthew was amused by her indifferent attitude, "I just told Mr. Perry that you are my wife and promised to take you to the dinner. If we go to file a divorce now, it will leave a bad impression on him and affect this cooperation."

Mary still looked indifferent, "So what?"

Matthew looked at her deeply. "So, you have to go with me tonight. Divorce can wait until we get back."

With that, he walked past her towards the elevator.

Mary blinked. Did she agree?

"Wait." She turned and followed him, "I didn't agree to that."

The elevator doors opened, and they both stepped in.

Matthew said calmly, "I want to rest now."

Mary's face darkened.

If she didn't attend the banquet, he wouldn't proceed with the divorce.

What was he thinking?

The atmosphere in the elevator was tense. Mary pressed the button for the 7th floor where her room was.
