Chapter 426 You Are Way Better Than Her Husband
"I remember now. You saved me!" Mary exclaimed, her eyes wide with surprise.
Sean looked down, a shy smile playing on his lips. "It was nothing. I'm just glad you're okay."
"I owe you my life," Mary said, standing up and moving closer to him. "What's your number? When do you have some free time? I want to treat you to a meal!"
Sean blinked, a bit caught off guard by her directness. He shook his head slightly. "No need for that. I'm just happy you're safe."
Shirley walked over, grinning. "Come on, it's just a meal. Don't be shy. You saved Mary, so you're our hero. Here's my business card. If you ever need anything, just call me."
She handed her business card to Sean, who took it, looking a bit flustered.
Shirley turned to the others. "Alright, you all can go now. Let him stay."
Everyone else left, leaving just the three of them.
Shirley gestured to a chair. "Have a seat, don't be so uptight. We're not bad people."
Mary and Sean stayed quiet.
Mary broke the silence. "What's your name? I'm Mary Smith."
"Sean Huxley," he replied with a small smile.
Mary extended her hand. "I haven't properly thanked you yet. I really appreciate what you did."
Sean shook her hand awkwardly. "It was nothing, really. Anyone else would have done the same."
Shirley chimed in, "Not everyone would have stepped in. People like you are rare. Cheers to you!"
She handed Sean a glass and clinked it with his. Before he could say anything, she downed her drink.
Seeing this, Sean quickly followed suit and drank his.
Mary picked up her glass too. "Cheers to you. If you ever need anything, just let me know."
Sean nodded. "Okay," and downed his drink again.
Shirley lightened the mood, and soon the awkwardness melted away. They even started playing drinking games.
Despite his innocent look, Sean knew all the tricks of nightlife, but his clear eyes made him seem pure.
Mary's cheeks flushed. She hadn't let loose like this in quite a while, as the recent events had been weighing her down.
"I need to go to the restroom," she said, standing up with a slight smile and leaving the room.
Sean instinctively stood up. "I'll go with you."
Shirley pulled him back. "She's going to the ladies' room. You can't go with her. Sean, your intentions are too obvious. You'll scare her off. And by the way, she's married."
Sean nodded. "I know."
Shirley looked at him, surprised. "You're really brave."
Sean gave a shy smile. Even after drinking so much, his face wasn't very red.
Shirley patted his shoulder. "Honestly, you're way better than her husband. If it were up to me, I'd hope you two could be together."
