Chapter 221 Was He Dead?

Matthew kept his cool and said, "Fix the report. I'll check it out myself."

"Got it," Rodolfo nodded eagerly. "You should stay in Lindenville a few more days to soak in  its local conditions and customs."

Just then, the door opened, and Rex walked in, looking serious. He whispered something to Rodolfo, whose expression changed. But with Matthew there, he kept his cool.

Before Rodolfo could speak, the door burst open, and someone stumbled in!

Five minutes earlier, in Mary's private room:

Peter was closing in on Mary, eyeing her buttoned-up shirt. "Don't come any closer. Touch me, and you'll regret it!" Mary warned, looking for something to defend herself with.

Peter laughed off her threats. "Go ahead, make a scene. I'm the most powerful person in Lindenville!" He lunged at her.

Mary screamed and dodged. Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Peter yelled, "Get lost!" But Rex walked in, and warned . "Mr. Peter James, don't cause trouble. Mr. Rodolfo James is hosting investors from Lindwood City."

"Get out! Who said you could come in?" Peter snapped. Knowing Peter wouldn't listen, Rex left to find Rodolfo.

Peter turned back to Mary, who seized the chance to run next door.

Mary thought, 'I can't leave the hotel; Peter could find me anywhere in Lindenville. But if I interrupt Rodolfo's investor dinner, I'd be safe.'

"Damn it, you bitch, how dare you run!" Peter's curses echoed as he chased her.

Mary pushed open the door and rushed in. Peter followed, saying, "Dad, this is my girlfriend. She's mad at me. I'll take her away. Enjoy your meal." He moved toward Mary.

Mary saw Matthew at the head of the table and froze. 'It's Matthew! But Peter is closing in. Should I ask Matthew for help? But he is a jerk. Who knows what he'd want in return?' Mary thought.

She turned to Rodolfo instead. "Sir, I don't know him. He's trying to force me!"

Matthew's face darkened. 'I am right here, and she asks someone else for help? Am I invisible?'

The room's atmosphere turned icy. Rodolfo, sweating, glanced at Matthew and saw he was displeased. He snapped at Peter, "You brat, get out! I'm working, and you cause trouble?"

Peter glared at Mary. "Come here. I was wrong. Let's make up."

Mary hid behind Rodolfo, refusing to go. Suddenly, a cold laugh echoed, making everyone turn to look.
