Chapter 731 Joey's Presence, Unexplained Comfort
Mary smiled slightly and said, "It's been good, just busy."
Joey stared at her and said, "You look like you've lost some weight."
Mary touched her face, "Really? Well, if that's true, I guess I don't need to go on a diet."
Joey wanted to say more but suddenly realized that this conversation was getting a bit too personal.
Thinking about what Rebecca wanted to do, he sighed inwardly.
Joey looked at the two lawyers, "You guys talk, I won't interrupt."
He was about to get up and leave.
"It's okay," Mary replied. For some reason, she suddenly wanted Joey to stay and listen to what was going to be discussed, as if having someone to rely on.
This feeling was quite strange and caught her off guard, but the words were already out.
Joey didn't get up to leave. "Alright, I'll be at the court tomorrow too, don't worry."
"Okay." Mary nodded.
The two lawyers continued talking, and Mary listened attentively. Joey occasionally added a comment or two. The meal time passed quickly.
When they finished and left the private room, the door of the adjacent room also opened. Several men with ingratiating smiles were looking at the man in the center, who was saying something.
Their eyes met, and Mary froze.
Matthew was in the next room.
Matthew glanced at Mary, then indifferently looked away and left with the other men.
Joey asked, "What's going on between you two now?"
Mary replied, "It's just what you see, we only have a marriage certificate. Our marriage is practically over."
Joey looked at her with some concern and patted her shoulder, "Don't worry, it will end."
Mary gave him a slight smile.
At that moment, the sound of footsteps on the stairs echoed.
Mary instinctively turned her head and met a pair of cold, deep eyes.
Matthew walked up slowly, tall and imposing, exuding a chilling aura.
His gaze fell directly on Joey's hand, which was on Mary's shoulder, making them look quite close.
Matthew raised an eyebrow slightly and then looked at Joey's face, "I was wondering why you missed today's meeting. Turns out you had a date. Does your father know about this?"
Joey frowned, instinctively wanting to avoid any misunderstanding about his relationship with Mary.
"It was just a routine meeting. My absence won't affect the project's progress. Mr. Montagu, you're exaggerating."
Joey let go of Mary and looked at Matthew indifferently.
Although they were business partners, he really didn't think much of Matthew.
A man with no sense of responsibility!
Now, Rebecca was completely infatuated with Matthew, insisting on pursuing him after he got divorced.
No matter what anyone said, she wouldn't listen, as if she were under a spell.
Matthew had already walked over, his eyes coldly fixed on Joey, "Let me give you a piece of advice. If you're here for business, focus on business. Don't end up with nothing and have to return to Diamond Ridge in disgrace."
With that, Matthew walked past Joey and went into the room he had just left, retrieving his phone.
This time, he didn't stop and left directly.
Mary frowned. If she wasn't mistaken, Matthew was warning Joey?
