Chapter 175 Recorded Evidence
Matthew stood ominously at the ward door, looking dark and icy. His narrow, phoenix-like eyes were as cold as a frozen pond, showing no hint of warmth or compassion.
Mary felt a chill and pressure, enveloping her entire body. With a steely gaze, she questioned, "You called me. What's this about?"
Was this about what Laura mentioned? Why blame her for everything?
Mary's eyes hardened.
Matthew asked, "Why did you kidnap Laura?"
Mary laughed coldly. Seriously? He called her here to accuse her of something she didn't do!
She glared at him with a detached expression. "Matthew, have you lost your mind? I'm an orphan with no power or money in Lindwood City, and I'm penniless. You accuse me of kidnapping her! How could I do that?"
She found it ridiculous and laughed, but sadness crept in. Matthew hadn't trusted her for a long time.
The look he gave her when he was poisoned and spat blood still felt like a dagger, still embedded in her heart, causing her excruciating pain.. And now, another accusation! Did he genuinely believe she hadn't suffered enough? Why did she have to go through this?
Her sadness made Matthew pause, but he stayed stern. "I have evidence." He played a recording on his phone.
[He can't let go of Laura because she once saved him. If Laura's out of the picture, he'll focus on you.]
[Are you suggesting you'll help me?]
[If you want.]
[I'll think about it.]
The recording was short, but it was clearly Mary and Linda's voices.
Laura staggered. "Last night, I was kidnapped on my way home. If weren't for Sam, I wouldn't be here now. Ms. Smith, how vicious you are!"
Mary was shocked. Wasn't this her conversation with Linda from yesterday? How did it end up on Matthew's phone? The recording was edited to mislead!
Matthew looked at her coldly. "Any excuses?"
"I..." Mary opened her mouth but no words came out.
It was her voice, not fake but rearranged, and Laura was kidnapped right after she talked to Linda.
The overwhelming number of coincidences left her without a proper explanation. Mary took a deep breath, looking into Matthew's intense gaze. "I didn't do it." Her voice sound how feeble her defense sounded.
Laughing through tears, Laura got up and pushed Mary hard. "Mary, the evidence is here. How dare you deny it?"
She turned to Matthew. "Matthew, as vicious as she is. Will you still not divorce her?"
Mary stumbled, almost falling, and Matthew frowned.
But seeing Laura's pale face, he stayed stern. Last night, Sam called Matthew, saying he saved Laura from being kidnapped.
